We had the good fortune of connecting with Gerald Knight and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Gerald, maybe we can start at the very start – the idea – how did you come up with the idea for your business?
My idea came about in college. I use to sell bootleg CDs around the dorms. One day while having a study group a friend suggested I dj his birthday party based off the number of CDs owned at the time. From there my career as Dj was born.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
My career is based off how bad you want to win. Its all about who you know in this business. I got where I’am today buy being consistent and working countless nights with a positive attitude. No it was not easy. I overcame a few challenges by staying focused and blocking out all negative thoughts. I learned that you cant show any emotions in this business. I want the world to know that I started from the bottom with no major brand or artist to back me or help land any major opportunities. I am what you call “Self-Made”

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I would take them to Plush Bar & Grill. They have great food and the music is always on point. If it were a week long the itinerary would be based off of excitement. Gym, Food, Parks, Strip Clubs, Lounges, Top Golf and clubs. I base my life off of experience and the people God brings into my life.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to shout out my parents for pushing me to do more within my career. I also would like to shout out my son (Jaylen). He has played a major role in my journey.
