Meet Georgina Castillo | Owner & Creative Director, Sadie Event Decor LLC

We had the good fortune of connecting with Georgina Castillo and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Georgina, what’s the most difficult decision you’ve ever had to make?
In terms of my entrepreneurship, I would have to say making the decision of jumping from corporate America, where I didn’t have to worry about overhead or making ends meet at the end of the month, to an industry that came to a screeching halt because of a worldwide pandemic. I made the decision to start Sadie beginning of March 2020 without planning on leaving corporate America soon after. But I came to a crossroads after my daughter was diagnosed with COVID-19 and then her onset of seizures. There truly is a blessing in every situation. I was almost “forced”, for lack of a better word, to decide what my true calling and passion was. At the time the decision was not made lightly because I was focused on medical issues and medical bills. I would, or so I thought, be making a mistake if I left. But then the more I thought about it, the more I needed to be home with my family — with my daughter. I soon realized that my stress levels dropped, that I could dedicate the time my family needed to them as well as the time my entrepreneurship needed. Are there ups and downs? Of course! Every decision comes with its good and bad. We’re only on our second year but I think we’ve built a good foundation to keep growing.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Sadie Event Decor LLC was created out of love for beautifully, tastefully and aesthetically styled parties. Our mission is to provide our customers with an experience — not just another party.
I was the kid that always wanted a themed birthday… but in the ‘80’s and ‘90’s the closest you came to a “cool” party was having balloons stuck to wall. Fast forward to the ‘00’s I was always the go to person to decorate family and friends parties. When balloon garlands became a thing I jumped on that wagon so fast! Ha!
The challenges I faced when starting my entrepreneurship was not really knowing the market or the vendors. There was a lot of late nights mainly finding vendors on Instagram, finding workshops I could take to better my skills. Event decor is like fashion, trends change all the time and you have to be on your toes and willing to make the necessary changes so your business will continue on its course to success. Workshops are a must for me, you never know too much.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My daughters, Sofía and Adelina, they’re the engine behind everything for me.
My husband, Alberto, and my mother, Norma, they’ve always been very supportive. My siblings, Gabriela, Jorge and Norma, have always gone out of their way to lend a helping hand, especially when event budgets are a little under of what I’d prefer.
My friend and mentor, Viviana Guerra or VG Decoración de Eventos. She’s been my soundboard pretty much from day one.
