Meet Genina Johnson | Author, Blogger and Respiratory Therapist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Genina Johnson and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Genina, as a parent, what do you feel is the most meaningful thing you’ve done for them?
As a single mother of 3 beautiful children the most important thing I did for my children is to love them. I have two boys and one girl they are my world. Whatever decision I make in life I always keep in mind that my choices will affect them as well. I moved my children from the south side of Chicago one of the most dangerous neighborhoods to Georgia to give them a better life. Even when I’m dating I don’t allow any man around my children. I instill in my children the same things my grandmother instilled in me God, love and family. Remember, the Children first teachers are always the parents.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Well as some people say I wear many hats. I’m a Heath care professional also known as Respiratory therapist. For those who may not what I a respiratory therapist does I take care of patients who have troubling breathing. Patients with Asthma, COPD, bronchitis etc. Also I help manage the life support machine also known as a ventilator. Besides being a RT. I’m a published author. The name of my book is Purpose in my Pain. Which is a short memoir about my life and who I was able to overcome some challenges that I faced in my life. I’m also a blogger. As you can see I love to write. I love to inspire people through my writing. I love to share my stories on how my faith in God has gotten me through some very hard and dark seasons in my life. I love to help people weather it’s through my career in the medical field, or through my writing. I want to help them by telling my story and encouraging them by letting them know you can overcome every obstacles that’s standing in your way. You just have to believe and have faith and do the work because faith without works is dead James 2:26
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Well I love to eat so when my friends are coming into town I got a few restaurants we would go visit. Well for brunch since I love brunch we can do Toast on Lenox..
For a nice dinner and a good vibe we would head over to Frost Bistro over on Peters street. Peter’s street is always a vibe.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I want to shoutout my late grandmother. The woman who saw that I had a calling on my life since the age of 9. The woman who prayers carried me through and are still carrying me this day. The woman who raised me into the woman I am today. The woman who loved beyond my mistakes in life. She was my safety net. When ever I was going through a storm in my life she would remind me of my strength. The strength that I had when I came into this world weighing under 2 pounds.
