We had the good fortune of connecting with Genesis High and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Genesis, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
When I began The Madness Brand it started off as merchandising for my publishing company. Once it started to gain traction, I realized that I was on to something great! Granted, I have always been interested in skin care, it certainly opened the door for me to expand the brand into becoming its own entity.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
The Madness Brand started with just whipped Shea butters that I made by hand. And I mean literally! I do not use a mixer I use wooden sticks to create the Madness Butterz. This alone sets my brand apart from others because most people do use electric mixers. I give away product and by doing this created return customers. Sometimes, it can be overwhelming if I have a lot of orders that are different scents I have to whip up but I can say the pressure is worth it. Most of my challenges came with shipping the items without them melting in the summer!

Once I overcame that I began to extend the product line which has been great! The Madness brand now includes body butters, scrubs, lip balms, hair serum and I will be introducing the loc and twist gel in 2022.

I have learned along my journey to test my products before launching them. Taking the time to see how it will effect different skin and hair textures/types has given me an advantage to recommend products to new customers as well.
All my products are all natural, I use natural preserves and essential oils and because of this, I have to be mindful on cost effectiveness.

With The Madness Brand every item that I create is with intention of healing and making the client feel good! For me it is quality over quantity and that is what has kept this going.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to give a shout out to my friends and family members that have always supported me in my endeavors.
