Meet Gene Hoskins | Recording Artist & Psychotherapist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Gene Hoskins and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Gene, what is the most important factor behind your success?
The most important factor is staying true to what is natural for me, and the great morals that I was taught as a child. GOD is my source, and literally holds me together. I am nothing without his his favor. I also realize that people often times don’t buy your product(s) because they are necessarily interested in the products ( some may), but they really are buying it because it’s an extension of you. Make sure you’re kind, warm, and integral to people because they deserve it.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?

I have dual careers! I am a licensed psychotherapist, and I also own my practice (Peace of Mind Psychological Services). I have a caseload of about 75% African American men. I am so honored that people would trust me with their trouble, trauma,and brokenness. I have been in mental health over 13 years, and had many years of schooling. The road wasn’t always easy, but there are times when you have to do things in the absence of feeling motivated to complete it. Some things just HAVE to get done!

I am also a recording artist. I am a gospel singer, signed to Shanachie Entertainment. I currently have a radio single entitled “Make it With Jesus.” I have been a professional background singer for over 12 years, which allowed me to prepare for where I am now. I’ve learned not to fall into the comparison trap. Comparison kills what may be an authentic product or creation meant for someone out there. Don’t allow comparisons to rob you of what you’re suppose to deposit in the Earth.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I have to thank several people: My mother (Pastor Kimberly Massey) because of her integrity, sacrifice, and fierce love. My dad (Minister Warren Hoskins) for the gift of music and song. My family for sharing me with so many people. My Pastors (Bishop Ronald Godbee and Pastor Karla Godbee) for their undying support, care, and wisdom. Jonathan Nelson, Maranda Curtis, and Pastor John P. Kee for recognizing something in me, and sharing their platforms. I have seen the world because of them. The RIVER CHURCH!!! They just don’t play about me, and I love them for it.
