Meet Gavin Boulware | Charlotte Maternity Photographer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Gavin Boulware and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Gavin, have there been any changes in how you think about work-life balance?
Everything changed with me with the birth of my son Roman. Before it was just my wife and I trying to navigate our new career path changes and having fun. Part of that fun was always taking photography gigs and not really focusing on my “why”. With the birth of my son, I was actually approached by mentor, Designs by JK – another amazing Charlotte photographer and he encouraged me to invest more into my family, than photography. He reminded me that every gig will be there after I spend valuable time with my son. Now I focus on the right photography session and place it at the right time in my calendar, so I can enjoy my wife but also be an active Father.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Being a Charlotte maternity photographer hasn’t been the easiest, however I always love to share that my business is unique due to the ways I’ve grown from my mistakes. So I’ve been taking photos since I was 17 and now 19yrs later, I wouldn’t change my path for anything. At Gavin Boulware Photography our goal is to create a unique experience for every client. I believe that experience starts well before our photoshoot. I love to engage my client on social media, show them my personality during our consultation, so that when they arrive at the session, we already have a connection.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I can’t even lie to you, I don’t know they last time I’ve been out. I seriously love hanging with my family and friends. We might hit the Vortex in Midtown and Seasons 52 but I don’t know if you’re gonna catch me out partying.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Shoutout to the entire Black Dads Club community! I actually started the Black Dads Club Podcast over 3 years ago and since then we have grown into a community of thousands, where we all share the same love, bond and vision of supporting a strong group of Black Men.
