We had the good fortune of connecting with Gary Smith and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Gary, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
At the time I was trying to escape my 9-5. I really needed to feel like I was being of service and helping people. Value is a word I take very serious and personal. So I created some value within my self so that I may share it with the world.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
We bring the massage experience to you. I figured there are many people struggling today from lack of touch.. We’re human and need that.. We need to feel, feel good. I stayed up late nights thinking how can I sell what I have better? What population needs my gift more Well? Then it hit me. I’ll cut out the commute, parking, undressing just to get dressed again and leave. So no more traffic and all the other stuff that takes away from the experience.. Mobile Massage became my selling point.. I’d tell people things like ” You don’t even need to leave the house. All the Spas are closed when you get off work. The kids won’t allow you to enjoy your massage because you don’t have a babysitter. ” I solved a lot of people’s problems by doing that. Before you know it I was being booked in Hawaii all expenses paid to massage.
Well it wasn’t easy getting to this point and there is much more work to do.
I think hitting rock bottom did it for me. Also watching my girlfriend at the time grind super hard left an impression on me. I wasn’t really motivated at the time. I was kind of distracted, unfocused and maybe depressed.
There was a point where I was homeless yet still running my business from my car. Still traveling to different city’s servicing my established clientele.
Looking back I don’t know how I did not fold up like a ball and quit!
I am stronger and wiser today. A lot more organized as well. I had to revamp my entire way of thinking and my brand.
I’ve learned some pretty tough lessons over the last three year’s. Have confidence in the unknown. Everyone isn’t going to look out for you. Have a plan B, C, and D in whatever you do.
I’d really Iike the world to know here at Relaxx Ultimate Massage Therapy we care. We will treat them with respect. We only have their best interest in mind.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I haven’t done much since moving here to Atlanta. I’m so busy working and parenting that I haven’t really enjoyed Georgia. There is a place I’ve been to a few time’s though. It’s called Southern Gentleman in Buckhead. The service is A1 and the food makes me smile. Ooooh Ponce City Market is pretty dope. The rooftop has a really nice view, restaurant, games, miniature golf and my favorite Corn Hole.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
That’s tough. It’s been a solo effort and I wish I had someone or something to look back on to say “Thank you!” Although I did have a few friends tell me how proud of me they were and that I’m this Super Dope person that should be known.
