We had the good fortune of connecting with Gabriel Acoff and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Gabriel, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
Acoff Building Services was born during the rise of the pandemic. I found myself working for other commercial cleaning companies that did not seem to care for their employees. Many people experienced loss during this time, whether physical or mental, and these companies failed to accommodate their needs. I desired to create a company that cared as much for their employees as they did their customers. The pandemic also created an increased need for cleaning services. I wanted to ensure both small business and large companies could afford the necessary cleaning services to aid in keeping their doors open.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Acoff Building Services was founded in 2020, a year of intense pressure for many. Like many who grew up in low socioeconomic communities with high crime, I learned to thrive under pressure. I took the money I saved and money given for pandemic stimulus payments and began my business. When others doubted my level of business knowledge because I am a GED recipient, I showed them that I knew more than they thought I did. It was not easy, but I built a company that continues to grow while sustaining its reputation for thoroughness and attention to detail. I learn something new everyday from other business owners around me and commerical cleaning owner groups on social media. The most important lessons I learned is to learn from your mistakes and have patience. Nothing that lasts happens overnight and without effort. Acoff Building Services provides sanitization, disinfecting, janitorial, office, post-construction cleaning and much more for businesses in the Birmingham, AL and surrounding areas with constantly expanding locations. I am excited to see our company expand to Georgia, Tennessee, Mississippi, and Florida.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Atlanta is one of my top cities to visit. It is always a good time when I drop in to see family and friends. To visitors, I would highly recommend searching for a concert or festival in the area. Atlanta hosts the best r&b and hip hop artists, and the liquor festivals are always a treat.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I want to dedicate this shoutout to the ladies of my family. I come from a long line of hospitality experts. My grandmother and mother, along with many of my aunts, worked in and retired from residential and commercial cleaning. I learned so much about life watching them as I grew up. What they did was more than a job. They could see in detail what others could not, managed their time better than some of the top executives, and cared for others in ways that many would not consider. They inspired the foundation of Acoff Building Services.
