We had the good fortune of connecting with G Smoove and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi G, what principle do you value most?
“To thine own self be true!” This business has a way of making you lose sight of who you are and why you came into the business. I constantly remind myself why i’m here!
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
What I do is very diverse. I am a radio personality because I love music. But I am also a songwriter/singer as well as a filmmaker. I went to school for this exact thing and I love it. But what I’ve realized is that when you enter a profession like the arts it is all a grind. You have to make it happen. It’s all in you. You are your own boss so you have to be able to push yourself beyond others. It’s like survival of the fittest. I am most proud of the movie I co wrote called “Entanglement” which is out now on Amazon prime, Tubi and other streaming platforms. I think what sets me apart from others is the fact that I keep going. I don’t quit. That is the only special power or attribute that I have. My ability to push through rather than quit! It’s never an easy road but most people quit before their breakthrough. They settle for comfort rather than attack that which they want most. The biggest lesson I’ve learned is that sometimes waiting is the test. Timing is everything so you have to wait your turn in life.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I would take them to Fogo de Chao to eat. Nothing like endless steak, any way you want it! Lol. I’m a cigar lover so we would have to visit one of the many cigar establishments throughout the city! If they are a creative then we have to spend some time in the studio as well.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
There are so many people who helped me along my journey. My mother is at the top of the list. My father has been a constant source of encouragement as well. Constantly helping me to see a different perspective. My uncle (RIP) was very instrumental in teaching me how to move in this industry as well.
