We had the good fortune of connecting with Fred Whitaker and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Fred, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
My thought process was to break the generational cycle of my family working 9-5. I am the first one in my family to graduate from college and do not have a 9-5. No disrespect to those who do work a 9-5, but I could not see myself sitting behind a desk for 30+ years until I retire.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I had the opportunity to get a union job to become a correction officer. Instead, I took the risk of partnering with my best friend (Terrence J), helping manage him to pursue our goals and dreams within the entertainment business.
I created a children’s book series (Come on a Journee with me to NYC) where I empowered my sister to be the writer and empower my daughters to be co-authors and embody the idea of entrepreneurship.
We all have 24 hours in a day, and I just personally use every hour. My balance has changed over the years due to trial and error. I have made a lot of mistakes, but I have learned from those mistakes.
“Treat the president and the assistant as the same. You never know where people are going to end up in life and who is watching you”. What that means to me is, I want people to treat me the same as I’d treat them. Mutual respect is very important.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
