We had the good fortune of connecting with Frank Taylor and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Frank, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I actually did not view it as a business in the beginning. I had something that I was passionate about, and I wanted to share it with other people that have the same passion. It turns out that there were a lot of people that seemed to like what I was doing so I stuck with it.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I started The Ships Logg YouTube channel a couple of years ago. The idea was to just share my passion of being on the water with others who enjoyed the same thing. I have been a big fan of other YouTubers who are out there living alternate lives, following their passions and sharing it with their viewers. Sailing Uma, Searching for C-Shels and Expedition Evans to name a few. I’m not so much living an alternate life, but I am following my passions.

The hardest part was getting started. Having no experience or training in making videos, I really was not sure what to do. I heard many people say that even if you don’t know what to do, just do something to get it started. Even if the first video is bad, at least you did it. So, I did my first video. It was bad. I kept going though, and eventually they started getting better.

Since then, I have learned a lot. Some ideas that I tried did not work and others did. Other things that I thought would not be very popular went viral and somethings that I thought would be the next big viral video just flopped. You never know what is really going to do well sometimes.

Still the purpose of my channel has not changed. I’m just passionate about something and I want to share it with the world.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Well, of course, I would take them to Lake Lanier. We would probably have to split things up into two days. One day would be on the boat and the other day would be on jet skis. The lake can be a different experience from one to the other. Locations visited would include Margaritaville, Cocktail Cove, and a stop at one of the restaurants on the lake for lunch or dinner. Pigtails and The Twisted Oar are a couple of my favorites! Taking a high-speed run on a jet ski up to the north side of the lake is always a blast as well.

Of course, I do live part of my life on land too. Some of my favorite spots intown include Beetlecat (best seafood in ATL) and a good cigar lounge.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I definitely want to recognize my followers. Sometimes when you are creating something for the consumption of others, you wonder if what you are doing is worth it or if anyone likes it. I’ve gotten so many positive words from the people who watch my videos and that really helps keep me going. I have also gotten great support from family and friends.
