We had the good fortune of connecting with Floyd Grant and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Floyd, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
Growing up in church and seeing how God moved through me. I knew that I had a bigger calling and decided to use my gift as an R&B recording artist. It was filled with Passion and Drive to make people aware of my gift.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I am proud of the hard work I’ve put in and invested into my music career. It hasn’t been easy but it has been a learning but yet exciting experience. Starting out 13 years ago, I was already in the music industry maybe 5 years prior but wasnt knowledgeable of the business until I got around the right industry people. Ive been apart of some major mainstream opportunities that i am grateful for.

However, in 2019, after 9 years of working hard and wanting to see change in my career, I slowly became unmotivated and started to leave music slowly. By the time the end of 2019 came, I was no longer singing in bands or performing on my social media platforms. From 2020-2022 I started focusing more on my personal life and left music kind of in the background as I didn’t have the passion or drive to sing. But in the Summer of 2022 my Good Friend Jason told me you need to get back out there, the world is needing your gift.

So in December of 2022 i put together R&B Holiday Live Show and it was a major success. I was truly shocked that it was a packed show since i had been off the scene for 2 years. It goes to show you that when you are called to do something the provisions will be there.

Now in 2023 I continued with my show segments called R&B Vibes & Tingz and have been successful. I have formed a new band Floyd Grant & The Good Vibes Band. We are working on some new things and looking forward to sharing it with the world.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
One place i would take them would be Sklyine Park at Ponce City Roof. Nice restaurants and Game places to have fun. Its alike an Amusement park. Another good place is a music spots like: Kats Cafe, Apache XRL, City Winery, The Velvet Note and many others.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I have a few that definitely needs a shoutout. I first have to give credit to GOD because without him I am nothing. Id like to to give a Shout out to my Mom as a young child she saw my gift and helped cultivate it by practice, singing in choirs and encouraging me to use my gift. I want to Thank Cairo Qween who just after a year of being an Artist, came in and became my first booking agent and helped me get recognized. I want to give a major shout out to Da Public’s Eye who came along and showed me how to be more of a business man and to record myself using Pro Tools, being more marketable & understanding my worth as a vocalist and pushing through the noise. I want to also thank Artist friends, Athena Rene, Londee the Artist, A Lady Named Pearl and many more who continued to have me apart of their platforms.
