We had the good fortune of connecting with F’iona Mesha’ and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi F’iona, what role has risk played in your life or career?
My entire life I’ve been taking risks, it never felt right to stay in the realm of comfort. There were and still are so many things that I want to accomplish. Whenever I decide to take a risk on something I’ve thought through it shows that I’m willing to bank on me. Where I am right now is because of the decisions I’ve made in uncertainty that I felt would push me in the right direction. My father has always told me to think outside of the box when it came to push my music and I’ve done that so much so that my route is completely untraditional. I believe that if it’s in the cards for it to happen, it will.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am a singer, songwriter from the bustling city of Detroit, Michigan. I create unique records from the heart that showcase my raspy and soulful vocals. What sets me apart from other artists is that I have a four octave vocal range and am classically trained. Growing up, I stayed true to my musical roots, playing the viola and clarinet. I’m so grateful for the journey that music has taken me on and excited to one day reach the height of my career. In order for me to get to this point it took a lot of positive self talk, encouragement, consistency, prayer, self motivation and drive. Nothing worth fighting for is ever easy. I had to train myself to accept hearing no. A no is just God’s redirection towards a yes. Once I changed my mindset on this I flourished. I want my story to be encouraging, for those people who have been fighting year after year for their dreams to be a reality; it’s a possibility. It can happen, and it can happen the right way, If you know deep in your heart that what you’re doing is what you were born to do, nothing can stop you. My brand represents positivity and light. I hope that I can represent the kingdom of God and inspire others to want to do the same.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If my best friend were visiting me in Atlanta I would take them to one of my favorite restaurants, Breakfast at Barney’s and order some shrimp and grits with a side of scrambled cheese eggs. After we finished, we would probably hit the theater at Madison Yards or go to the beltline. Later on that evening we would hit my favorite desert spot, Sammie’s Cheesecake, then go up to the rooftop of my place and relax. Most of my friends love music so we would probably work on a song or two then hit some spots between Atlantic Station and downtown to go sing some karaoke. I wouldn’t really plan anything, I would go with the vibes of how we were feeling and go from there. Any time spent is always a good time.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to dedicate my shoutout to my family for always supporting me from day one.
