Meet Fernando Wicker | Owner of WickClothing

We had the good fortune of connecting with Fernando Wicker and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Fernando, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I was terrified when I first started . Starting a clothing brand was something I always wanted to do . I always wanted to wear my brand out in public and people ask , “ where you get that merchandise from”? That’s the best feeling in the word . I brought courses on how to start a clothing brand and in all honestly the courses didn’t really break it down well enough . It was more of shifting your mindset to start a brand . Not starting a clothing brand from making a website and so on and so forth. When I was brainstorming for my logo meaning I couldn’t find anything that was personal to me . Then the words with impact creates knowledge came to mind . Many think I got the meaning from my last name because my last name wicker but I did not . I came up with the logo and name beforehand . It never registered to me that I use the acronyms of my name . So that was shocking but amazing . The meaning behind the acronym is everyone is inspired but not everyone is impacted. You can be inspired and not take action but if you’re impacted you will only want what’s best for yourself. This is where the animal the cougar comes into the story . The cougar symbolises enigma, wisdom, & assertiveness. Cougars are not satisfied until they get what they want . This brand teaches people whom are afraid to be themselves to stand up for themselves . You don’t have to act like someone your not to satisfy external factors . Stay true and authentic to yourself .

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
As I explained in one of the episodes on my podcast . The year 2019 was the worst year of my life . The things I went through that year and beyond , the average couldn’t witness. It put me into a deep stage of depression. One day I had to wake up and realize that i’m going to kill myself one day if I keep going down this road . I had to make a decision to stop complaining and crying. Nobody was coming to help me . Nobody checked up on me and if so it was rare . And when they did check up on me , it wasn’t much they could’ve did. To help. Once I realize that nobody was going to save me . It was up to me to change , I had to go all in. Even when I was depressed, I still was the same person . That’s why my brand meaning is stay authentic to yourself . The situations I was in could’ve easy made me change but that’s not me. Being myself is in me not on me. The lessons I learned was commit first figure out the rest later. Once you start to think more than 5 minutes, it’s a big probability that your not going to execute. I want the world to know it’s really cool to be yourself . It’s okay to be true to yourself without seeking external validation. It’s always someone out there with a better life and a worst life than yours. This brand is for the most authentic people . Those whom are comfortable in their skin .

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Well First of all, I practiced a vegan diet . Most of my friends still partake in eating meat. But I would take my friend to slutty vegan and then go game plan . We both don’t drink alcohol but when we do its a few shots. So well just go out and network with people and have fun . I can only speak for myself but I’m not a person who loves to go out and adventure everyday . I love to workout and try new vegan places . I also love to hike and clean . Everything around me has to be organized.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I will like to give a big shoutout to my parents and my brothers . Even though they didn’t have to purchase anything from me they still did . I tried to give them discounts codes since they supported me but they always ended up paying full price . I want to give a shoutout to my baby cousin Jayla . She was the first person to buy my merchandise. She believed in me and I delivered. I want to give a shoutout to my childhood friend Koree. He supported me from the start . He showed nothing but love . I also want to give a shoutout to Josiah . My brother supported from day one and still is . We also started a podcast together . It’s named Let’s Get Active podcast on all platforms . It’s a lot of people that supported me and I’m so grateful for them . It’s a lot of people to sit here and name one by one but I appreciate everything and everyone even if I don’t say anything .
