We had the good fortune of connecting with Fernando Gomez and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Fernando, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
Personally the important factor of my success was knowing a connection of what you love to do. I personally met a guy by the name of Mondo. He was a photographer who did a photo shoot of my Lowrider Bike for a magazine feature. The more and more I talked to him the more I got interested in photography. The more I was seen with him the more people started recognizing me. Within a year I was shooting pictures with him for the magazine. 2-3 years later I found out a couple of my homies where promoters here in Denver Colorado. I got connected with them doing flyers and photography from big artists such as Twista, Dogg Pound, Bone Thugs and Harmony, Lil Flip and much more.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Where I’ve gotten to where I am today was a lot of hard work. First off shoutout to Mondo Delgado Sr. for getting me introduced into the photography world. He had did a photoshoot of my Lowrider bike for a feature into Best of Show Magazine. He is the one who taught me a few tips and tricks that got me interested in photography. In 2018 I bought my first camera equipment. I bought a canon camera. As I started messing with the equipment the more I started slowly understanding. I started off by only shooting pictures of car shows and family individuals. To start of my career it was not easy. I struggled for about a year or so before I started finally understanding what everything was. With very little and no experience I had to learn what everything did on my own. With lots and lots practice with multiple in home objects I practiced many different setting until I found that right one. I would say I was self taught threw all of this time and learned everything on my own. My biggest inspiration into this photography game would have to be Estevan Oriol. He has the eye for all of his photos and surrounds himself in the same Chicano culture. Throughout 2019 early 2020 my name became familiar with the community. December 2019 was the beginning of my career finally taking off. I was honored of shooting pictures of a big time Houston Artist known by Lil Flip. He had performed at The Venue located here in Denver, Colorado. I had the honor of not only shooting pics while he performed but to create his flyer too. After this night and all of my photos dropped on the internet my followers began to grow. After that 2020 was a blast. I had an honor of shooting Flip again the following year along with Krayzie Bone, Lil Cas, Krystal Poppin, Kap G, Twista, Bone Thugs and Harmony, Dogg Pound, 69 Boyz, Mike Jones, Flesh n Bone, Good Fortune, Saucewalka n the crew, Megadeath, Lamb of God and so many others. Some of my lessons I learned in the way is to never take only 1 picture of what your shooting get 2-3 pictures of what you shooting because 1 will always be better then the other. I want the world to know that people will judge you and no matter how hard it gets don’t give up on anything you put your mind too. Someone will see your hard work and dedication and reach out to you. Don’t let anybody or anything get in the way of what you love. Also never say never.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Honestly never been out of state at all sadly. But I would honestly show them a lot of hidden areas I take photography in and stores that nobody really knows of. I would take them to a couple different spots to eat. I would say The Original Chubbys, Torres Mexican Restaurant, Tacos Unicos. Honestly I would jus chill at home. I personally don’t like going out unless for photography or groceries. The world is a dangerous place and don’t really like going out. Listen to music, draw, paint, watch sports, play games etc.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I want to shoutout Mondo Delgado Sr. For first introducing me into the photography world and helping me with tips and tricks to begin. Also Best Of Show Magazine for letting work with them at the very beginning of my career. Shoutout to Torres Empire, Sam Torres, and Gary Champion for recently giving me the opportunity to do a few car show flyers and t-shirt design for there Las Vegas Super Hop. And most importantly shoutout to Hardog (aka Siktempos) for currently getting me my name out there so much more for my photography and Flyer creations.
