We had the good fortune of connecting with Fatimah Sansar and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Fatimah, why did you pursue a creative career?
Creativity and art is larger than life and that understanding in itself is power.
For someone who dreams to live an intentional and impactful life it’s a no brainer this is the route I chose to go. even though I have my first degree in “Mass-Communication” I was never going to work behind a desk. To create, to bring visions to life, with no time limit is magical and only that appeals to the younger version of me and still is.
I love the endless possibilities that comes with art and creativity, I love how simplest of idea can run and broadly innovate. I love seeing the voices and diverse vision of creatives behind an idea when it becomes a product, and how transformative that has shaped the modern society.
This career path is where real life changes, in real time, is attainable. And over the years this industry keeps birthing young and seasoned creatives, to achieve one common goal which is innovation, what a time to be a creative! What a time to be alive.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Fatimah Sansar is an entrepreneur, and a digital brand whose focus is fashion and lifestyle content creation. She uses her platform daily as a fashion girl guide for the millennials and beyond, both organically and globally. Her mission is to inspire and empower modern day women to find beauty and joy in their appearances. She believes the first step to any success story is dressing for it and she’s on a journey to show women how.. one styling at a time.
What sets my brand apart is servitude and showing up.
Coming to conclusion that my art, passion, and creativity is best used serving people in any capacity my platform is needed regardless of personal challenges and hurdles, has been my strength, and driving force.
This vision has helped empower modern day women. The readiness to serve them is the strongest resource that birth the growth for my brand and sets it apart. it’s her strongest forte that her community admire, with reviews such as.. “how you are able to keep showing up and serving us with all your life changes and challenges is unbelievably appealing” and that is above excellence.
What I’m most excited and proud of is “phase of motherhood” this has being the singular most phenomenal life changing experience for me. I’m most proud of how I have being able to juggle both motherhood and entrepreneurship, and excited for opportunities my experience as a mother can birth for my future business endeavors.
Building a brand isn’t easy and building my brand as any wasn’t easy.
My brand success story is attributed to perseverance, nothing in life is easy or handed out freely, to succeed at anything you have to go for it relentlessly, and the strength to do so can only be drawn from perseverance. To achieve the seasoned brand Fatimah Sansar is today, She persevere in the face of every major life crisis and challenges.
The lesson learned along my entrepreneurial journey was that your dreams is exclusive to you, peoples support of your idea and creative are limited to their understanding of what they feel you are. And that can birth frustration. Peoples opinion will let you down, their critic will reach a breaking point, and their lack of support will almost make you quit.
To overcome all these.. Persistently show them the bigger picture in a way that will make sense, and keep building to achieve that bigger picture, trust me it’s attainable!
Story I’d love people to know about my career and how it started?
I started my career in retail while I was in college back in Africa, Nigeria precisely. The brand named MICASA LA JADES at the time expanded and takes me around the worlds to countries like Dubai, South Africa, China and Europe. With two personal boutiques the brand was a success.
However I came to United States for visiting and decided to make it a home, that decision came with unforeseen challenges, and amidst the lowest of my life I launched a blog called “Magazine To Closet” as a way to keep my passion and creative side going. I blogged about fashion and trends, and style influence on social media such as Instagram and Pinterest. I started with minimal resources, I self-shoot contents with my phone and source my gear from Goodwill and Value-Village. I was working at a laundromat to support myself and my blog. It was tough! Especially leaving a life of comfort behind back home.
Magazine To Closet has since grown and evolve to a seasoned brand, bagged partnerships with renowned brands and companies. With so much more to offer in the nearest future. Her success story was birth through perseverance, hard-work, passion and a vision.
This brand will continue to grow, evolve and take up spaces. Her brand pillar is “Servitude” and “Excellence” and with this she’s sure to succeed even more.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
The first place I’d take a friend is undoubtedly shops at buckhead. There’s everything from shoppings to fine Dinnings , there’s a library for quick read, fancy city strolls and aesthetically pleasing city view and backdrops for photos. lol. One of my favorite shops in the area is “Therealreal” a preloved luxury goods boutique. Definitely the first stop.
Avalon would be my second stop! The Avalon amusement center always come in clutch whenever we visit and as a mom that’s such a big deal for me. However there’s so much to do and see here, there’s shopping, fine dining, and spa treatments, one of my favorite spa is located there “The woodhouse day spa” definitely so much to do here!
Sandy springs art center is our family favorite spot, this is our go to for performing art, my three years old daughter is obsessed with this spot! It’s unbelievably kids friendly.
Phipps Plaza is my go to for shopping, my absolute favorite place for luxury shopping. This is definitely my number fourth stop.
Cooking is a huge part of my culture, my family eat home cooked meal 90 percent of the time, hence farmers market stop is a most and some of my go tos are Sandy springs farmers market, “Sweet apple farmers market” in Roswell. and BrookHaven farmers market.
Last but not the least is Atlantic station, there’s the skating rink, restaurants and regal cinema. Another cool spot.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My family is the luxury that afforded me my current life and where I’m at in my creative career, they allowed me to fit in my career seamlessly into our life and living, and rendered full support whenever needed. For that I’m so ever grateful.
My online community were total strangers who believed in my brand and gave it a platform to express, evolve and grow to what it is today. For them I’m ever thankful.
