Meet Farah Seif | Fashion Designer & Business Owner

We had the good fortune of connecting with Farah Seif and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Farah, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I have always been captivated with suits but they’re always brushed aside as simply work attire.The 80s power suit has always fascinated me. In the 1970s, more women were joining the workforce, so, by the early 1980s, the idea of the working woman had become more normalized, paving the way for the 80s power suit. The exaggerated man’s business suit, pioneered by Giorgio Armani, cloaking the feminine form with an exaggerated masculine silhouette, shifted attention away from a woman’s body to what she could achieve, demanding respect, it broke women’s gender and sexuality stereotypes. It has since become synonymous with feminism and equality and a major inspiration for my designs.

Nowadays women’s suits have shifted away from their role as corporate ensembles. They’ve become less and less formal. Today women’s suits are statement-making, playful and allow modern women to walk through life with confidence and a sense of self empowerment. This is exactly the kind of confidence we want women to exude when they wear Farah Seif designs. I want women to feel confident, powerful, and beautiful wearing my designs.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Farah Seif launched in the SS19 season and has sold approximately 700 items since, with blazers/coats being best-sellers across the years. We started off strictly as an e-commerce brand and only shipped domestically. We have since expanded and now deliver to the UAE, Lebanon, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Jordan, and Oman. We are looking forward to expanding our brand worldwide this year, which is an exciting step for us.

Inclusivity is something that we constantly work towards and aspire to better. We want to create pieces that fit different body types and that women of all shapes and sizes can feel confident donning. We are very mindful of any feedback we receive and are attentive to our customers’ wants and needs. We’re an evolving brand and change to keep up with consumer behavior while retaining our signature aesthetic.

When creating each piece, we try to make it as unique as possible. Even when designing a piece that is considered to be simple, we put our own twist on it. We offer high-quality clothing at reasonable prices. What differentiates us from other brands is that we focus on a Niche. Our brand specializes in a specific product, which helps us learn from every collection and perfect each piece. Our product line is ever evolving to make the modern woman feel powerful while always prioritizing comfort. In doing so we like to keep up with the times and stay in touch with the community.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I live in Egypt, so visiting the pyramids is a definite must. Riding horses by the pyramids is something every tourist should experience. During the summer, the weather is extremely warm, so on weekends, the beach is the place to be. If we want something nearby, we could go to the North Coast for a quick weekend getaway; tanning till sunset and going out for a nice dinner by the beach. El Gouna is also a great destination known for its crystal clear water during spring as it is not too hot.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I grew up in a family of architects which definitely shaped my love for geometric shapes and patterns that I always incorporate in my designs and get inspiration from when creating new pieces. My family is an incredible support system. Each family member is a huge fan of the brand and a huge factor behind its success and growth.
