We had the good fortune of connecting with Faith Crawford and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Faith, how do you think about risk?
Risk to me is opportunity. I think when people hear the word risk, they automatically think of the loss in it. They get so caught up in the fear of risk itself and in the end, miss out on so many opportunities and experiences. Risk for me has opened up so many doors and connected me with so many talented and creative individuals, it’s truly amazing. I’ve always been a risk-taker, I’ve never been the type of person to play things safe but once I found my passion and tuned in with my ambition, my ability to take risks heightened tremendously. For creatives and entrepreneurs, it’s all about risk. You know as I run my own business, I have to constantly think about my goals and the steps necessary for me to reach them, and within that lies a ton of risk. For creatives and entrepreneurs to constantly experience growth, they have to constantly force themselves out of their comfort zones and that’s a risk in itself. The best part about risk is that it is a win-win. Either you take a huge step forward and move a little closer to your goal, or you take a few backwards and learn what moves not to make as you continue on. As long as your perspective is as optimistic as the risk, you’ll never experience fear the same.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I’m definitely a businesswoman but I like to refer to myself as a creative. Everything I do requires me to create something whether it’s designing my own website or customizing a pair of jeans. It always boils down to me and my innovation. I first tapped into my creativity at the end of 2019. I was in my bedroom messing around with some jeans and I just got this idea to design something that was so unique, it could only be made once. After receiving a massive amount of love from my close friends and family, I decided to start posting my clothing on social media just to really get myself out there. The amount of support and attention I got from designing clothes was my very first time realizing that this was meant for me and thanks to that realization I was able to turn my passion into a business opportunity. It’s going on year 2 for Aura Collectve and there is already so much that I learned about myself and others. Pursuing entrepreneurship has been one of the best decisions I’ve made in my life thus far. There’s so much that comes with being a business owner and it can be challenging at times but in the end, it is always rewarding. My goal is to continue to push individuality with my brand while also opening up other doors for myself and generations to come.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Truthfully Pittsburgh is an amazing place to visit, the atmosphere and vibe of this entire city is definitely notable. To kick off the trip I’d take them on a tour of the city. I’d drive them around to let them get familiar with the area some, get a good feel for Pittsburgh. I love food, so I’d definitely take them to get Big Shot Bobs wings and a Milkshake from The Milkshake Factory. It wouldn’t be a trip to Pittsburgh without sightseeing, so I’d definitely take them to Mount Washington, The Point, and The Strip District. Those locations are some of Pittsburgh most loved areas so it would only be right to stop past. We’d go to some of Pittsburgh’s best musuems, go thrift shopping, to a conservatory, and maybe to a Pirates game to top it all off.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I feel like right now in my life it is so critical for me to take a step back and acknowledge the people who have seen my vision since day one and have been of great support in pursuit of my dreams. To my mom; you are one of the most vibrant, ambitious, and hard-working women I know. None of my successes would have been possible without you and I want you to know that because of you, I am who I am. There is no me without you. To my Dad: To have someone who loves me in such a unique way that you do is truly a blessing. To have a true friend in a father is something I will cherish forever. You help me keep my vision alive and I am because of it I am forever grateful. To my Step Dad: You have been a man of many lessons, constantly loving me as one of your own. I am more than blessed to have another father figure in my life, Thank you for your continued commitment to love our family as if it were your very own. To Ms. Cookie: You are a blessing sent straight from heaven. The amount of love and life you invested in me at such an early age is beginning to pour out now for all the world to see. I could never forget who you are to me. To all my family and friends, I love you. There’s been so many contributions made from each and every one of you, I can’t express it in words just how grateful and full of love I am. As I continue to achieve everything meant for me, I want you all to know that our love is beyond true and that everything I do, I do to honor you.
