We had the good fortune of connecting with Fabiana Aparicio Gonzalez and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Fabiana, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
When I moved to the United States to start my family back in 2015, I had left everything behind. My family, friends and everything that I knew. I was a young, stay-at-home mom and I wanted to be able to contribute financially while also staying at home with my baby. I wanted to be able to create something for myself where I could grow professionally while also working on new skills and creating things I loved. I have always been a very artistic person. I enjoy creating with my hands and working on intricate projects. I was very lost at first and did not know where to even start. One day, I found about an online marketplace where I could sell digital and physical products all around the world, so I decided to start selling the templates for the digital invitations I had made for my son’s previous birthday parties. I created an Instagram profile to promote my templates and started connecting with all types of creatives. That is when I came across some girl’s profile. She had a Glowforge laser machine and created beautiful personalized gifts and many more miscellaneous things, all with her laser. I was totally fascinated by the idea of owning one and the many things I could create with it. That was my golden ticket. After talking about the idea of investing on a laser with my family, they decided to support my vision and contributed economically so I was able to buy it. It was a really big investment, so I was terrified of failing, of letting down everyone who helped me. I cried multiple times over the idea of not being good enough or that I was making a great mistake. I did not let that stopped me and I decided to go for it and I took one big leap of faith. Now it was all up to me, so I started brainstorming all the things I could start creating once I received my laser.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Since I was a kid, I have always enjoyed painting, crafting and creating new things. As we grow up, life gets busier and more complicated, and sometimes it is hard to continue practicing the things that bring us joy and peace. After starting my business, I have been creating many different things, always trying to express through them a little part of me. My main inspiration are my kids and the things they love, also, I love exploring trends and molding them to my personal style. Looking back, I have faced many personal challenges in my life, bigger than myself. I have been through some really rough situations that had left me feeling totally hopeless and to be honest, those times have also been the ones that have showed me how strong I really am. After my husband losing his job a few years ago, I was in the need of finding a job myself to help pay the bills. I did find a job indeed, but I was really miserable. I would spend all day away from my home, away from my kids and I would be so exhausted and totally drained, I did not have the energy to spend time with them. I would get so anxious every single morning by the thought of going back there, a place where I felt like I did not belong, a place that could be so toxic at times all I wanted to do was cry. Despite all that, I did get to meet a few people that have become really close friends and that I am grateful for. I just knew I did not want to spend the rest of my days in a place that made me so unhappy, so I started looking for remote jobs, so at least I could be home with my little ones. I had many interviews that took me nowhere, until one late night, I was scrolling through Instagram and I came across a story form the brand I got my laser machine from. They were hiring a content creator for their brand and they were offering a better pay than the place I was working at. I knew I had to apply for it, although I was really turned off by the thought of all the people who could be applying for that job and that the odds would probably not be in my favor. I was also really nervous about the fact that I had no professional experience in the field. All I knew was from creating content for my own business account and impostor syndrome hit really hard. I did it anyway! What was the worst that could happen? The day after, I received an email from the Social Media Manager wanting to interview me. I was thrilled, and really nervous too. The interview went great, she mentioned how they were very familiar with my work and that they loved it from watching me on social media. I was really surprised and flattered to hear that. I had a following interview with the Head of Marketing and the job was mine! I could seriously not believe it. Out of all the people out there, with all the experience, they picked me. When I started working with them, I did not have everything figured out, but I have been learning so many new things along the way and I have been polishing some other things too. I had finally found a job that allowed me to work from my home, while taking care of my kids, and while also working on my business and doing what I love! I am forever grateful for the opportunity.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Although I just moved very recently from Florida, I can say that I have had the pleasure of visiting some very interesting places here in Atlanta. As a mom, I try to always find places that are kid-friendly, so our first visit was to the Atlanta Aquarium. It was really fun, and my kids loved it! We actually liked it so much, we ended up getting a yearly pass for the family. We have also visited the Coca-Cola museum, which was pretty fun as well. Me and my family are food lovers, so we were thrilled when we found out that Atlanta has become a great food destination. We have been to some good restaurants such as Poor Calvin’s, El Tesoro, Breaker Breaker, Miller Union, and for a good refreshing dessert, we have been to Big Softie. Another place that we have enjoyed eating at has been Fred’s Meat & Bread and Ponce City Market and its many great food options. Me and my husband enjoyed a great time at the Truist Park as we watched a Braves game. Atlanta really has many amazing places to visit and we are excited to check them all out.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
None of this would have been possible without the unconditional support and love of my husband and parents, who have been my biggest cheerleaders since day one. Who boosted my confidence with their loving words, who made me believe in myself when I couldn’t, or when it was very hard to see all the things I was capable of. My husband, especially, for working so hard and giving us a life style where I could spend the first years of my son’s life at home, with him and giving me the opportunity to explore new horizons.
