We had the good fortune of connecting with Evette Phelps and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Evette, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
Family has always been an important factor in my life and I grew up around entrepreneurs so that encouraged me to start my own business. My mother was a hairstylist and at the age of 21 I knew that’s what I wanted my profession to be.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I truly believe in the craft of hair and I have been a hairstylist for over 10 years. Each year I have studied and perfected my art. Having 3 kids I knew I needed to figure out what would help me get to 6 figures. I did my research and realized Tape-ins were a great technique for natural hair. My expertise is in natural hair and when a client leaves out my chair they transform into a new woman with bold color and/or extension.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I work so much so when I do have a chance to get out I’m going to make it the best time ever for my friends because I do believe in the importance of work hard play hard. We would probably get some food at my favorite Mexican spot along with a couple of margaritas and then let the night lead us.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like to give a shout-out to my husband Carl and our children Kyra, Tre, Grae and Ella. They have truly been my motivation and inspiration.
