We had the good fortune of connecting with Eulandria Montford and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Eulandria, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
Starting my businesses originally came out of financial need. Being a single mom I always had to figure out a way to ensure my children had what they needed. I found myself searching my talents and seeing which one would be lucrative. At the time T-shirt making was “in” so I started making shirts and other custom items. I have always been in a work environment that is customer service driven, so having my own businesses and being successful has been awesome and a financial breakthrough. I also wanted to offer affordable and quality service to my clients.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Education has been my career for the last 22 years. I have also taken on retail, salesman and hair styling positions throughout my working career. Balancing multiple businesses and working fulltime has it’s challenges, yet it is very rewarding as all my businesses are customer service related. I also have found that my career in education has fostered great communication, organizational and leadership skills. I use these skills to ensure all my businesses run effectively and efficiently. My love for fashion and décor are my creative attributes and play a major role in me standing out to producers, directors and casting directors. I most recently was cast for a movie that is set in the 70s based on my selection for my wardrobe for the scene. I love period piece projects; I sometime feel those eras are where I belong due to the style and fashion of the times. This journey has taught me that support and having like-minded peers is crucial to becoming successful and maintaining a level of integrity that is admirable. I have some great people in my life that offer me unwavering support. Having this strong support team has been pivotable in being able to have multiple businesses. My children, DeAaron, Tyrone, Tyrion, TyDario and Tyronique are all my original foundation and reason for becoming an entrepreneur. I have always wanted to ensure that my children always have a role model that’s in their presence. I am always reflecting on the impact I have on the people that are in my circle. I am eternally grateful to those that allow me grace as I navigate through my journey.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Visiting Atlanta is not for the faint at heart!! I would take them to Breakfast Boys, Waffle House and Another Broken Egg for breakfast. I have favorites on each of their menus. I love walking the Beltline so we would definitely walk and grab light bites from some of the vendors….I would end the evening with a drink and dinner from a new spot I visited Weezy’s Lounge. I am not a club person yet I love the food at VVS on Old National.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Where do I begin…. I would like to first honor my mom and grandmother(Helen & Minnie) for instilling the ability to be efficient and resilient in me. Throughout my life I have always faced adversity in areas of my life. During those times my little brother, Robert, has always been supportive. There have been times recently where I have been in a bad head space and need some reassurance and my cousin, Leteshaies, is always one phone call away. As I shifted to being more self aware, self correcting and taking accountability for the decisions I make my therapist, Ms. Elaine, is credited with being the reasoning ear for me. There have been several organizations that have helped me overcome and sustain in my adult hood. The Heather Bankhead Foundation offered support when my daughter began her health crisis journey, Vonnie in the City provided me with an outlet to voice my opinion and help the masses, Melanated Pearl has supported me and put me in rooms with like-minded women I have only imagined being around, BluePrint58 has been a strong support system for my family as a whole. TLA owner Tina Bridges has opened up a whole new world into modeling, photography and acting and boosting my self worth, confidence and overall self esteem. Carolyn Herring will forever hold a place in my heart for allowing my creativeness to be showcased in her stage play. I would not be in the peaceful state of mind I am in in my career if not for Wesley International Academy, the school’s staff and administration are in a league of their own. I am eternally grateful for the impact they have had on my family. There’s a time and place for everything and I would like to take this time to thank my other half for mentoring, supporting and making sure I am focused on being a better woman. Last, I would like to thank my children DeAaron, Tyrone, Tyrion, TyDario and Tyronique for making me the responsible, compassionate, empathetic and an overall hard working person I am today.
