We had the good fortune of connecting with Erin Scott and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Erin, why did you pursue a creative career?
I enjoy being innovative and improving the digital experiences for customers through my work, especially for small business owners and entrepreneurs who are just getting started. The chance to create change and help people by using technology drove me to start my web design and app development business. As an IT Professional in my “day job’, it was a natural transition for me to do something in the digital space. With my web design business, I have the opportunity to work with people in all industries while helping businesses cultivate their brand online so they can be successful. The beauty of being creative is that I can turn someone’s vision, even an incomplete vision, into reality online. I consider myself to be an online storyteller for businesses.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Living in the digital world, websites and apps are the best sales tools for businesses as well as the quickest way to reach new customers. My business, UpNext Designs LLC, is a one-stop-shop for responsive web design, native mobile apps, progressive web apps (PWA), SEO content writing, graphic/logo design, maintenance, and hosting. My overall goal is to help customers grow and monetize their services online by translating their business values into an innovative design concept. I am most proud of my customer satisfaction rating – my business has a 5-star rating on Google and Facebook. The fact that my customers are happy and successful online means the most to me. This is what fuels me and the reason why I created my business. But getting this far was not easy. It took me over a year to learn web design and another year to build up my portfolio. I started building websites for free to get experience and expose my brand. Creating designs for free is something that I would encourage all creatives to do when just starting. Additionally, the IT industry is constantly evolving and changing. Therefore, I am always learning new things to improve my skills and business, which I love! To help grow my business, I am looking to build more partnerships with other creatives (i.e., content writers, graphic designers, brand specialists). Strategic partnerships allow businesses of all sizes to have mutual benefits such as a growing customer base, brand awareness, and long-term profits. Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My parents deserve all the credit for doing such an amazing job raising me and my brothers. They created a strong foundation for us to succeed and always encouraged us to do our best. I believe my ambition and drive comes from being the youngest of four. I always wanted to be better than my brothers in all aspects of life (i.e., sports, grades). Growing up with three older brothers, I had to be competitive to survive! My parents had an “old-school” way of parenting which I still appreciate to this day. They weren’t our friends and held us responsible for our actions to ensure we understood the importance of hard work and discipline. The lessons my parents taught me as a child and young adult are a big reason why I am successful today. Shoutout to my parents!
