We had the good fortune of connecting with Erin Mortenson and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Erin, can you share a quote or affirmation with us?
One of my favorite quotes / affirmations is “no one doing more than you will ever put you down.”

The reason I love this quote is because one of the biggest things that held me back from starting my business was the fear of what others would say or think about me. However, at some point my fear of being stuck where I was forever was far worse than my fear of judgment. I realized that the people I looked up to – successful people, happy people, people who were having an impact on others – they were not looking at people like me with any judgment. In fact, they were often the ones rooting people like me on.

The people who judge and put others down are the ones who are actually insecure themselves, or who are envious in your ability to take a chance on yourself. Once I realized that the only ones who would judge me or put me down were actually people I didn’t look up to, that made it a lot easier to put myself out there and take the risk.

What should our readers know about your business?
I am a business coach for people who are looking to escape the corporate 9-5 life and work for themselves by starting an online business with the skills they already have. I mostly help those who are wanting to become online service providers (virtual assistants, social media managers, copywriters, bookkeepers, consultants, etc.) and I do this through my various trainings and coaching programs. My current main offer is the OSP Training Academy, where I help you start and grow your online business so you can ditch the 9-5 and work for yourself in 12 weeks.

There are a few things that set me apart from others in my industry –

The first is my journey. I started this business after trying and failing for many years to work for myself online. I tried MLM after MLM, blogging, affiliate marketing courses, drop shipping, and I even almost went back to school to get a UX/UI design so I could start designing websites. I didn’t think I had anything to offer, until one day I started simply helping people out with some tasks online. As someone with many years of experience and a business education at that point, I was able to quickly scale my business and charge high ticket for my services. I replaced my 6 figure corporate income in a matter of weeks, and in less than 6 months I was making $10k/month as a VA.

After getting to this point in my business, I realized there were so many people stuck in the corporate world who were feeling stuck the way I had for years. I started teaching a few people how to start their own online businesses, and those people quickly replaced their income and quit their jobs, too. Many of the coaches who teach people these days took a coaching program like mine and decided to create their own, whereas mine was created from scratch after many years of trial and error. I’m very proud that I never had a coach teach me what I teach my own students.

The other thing that sets me apart from others is my authenticity. My clients often tell me that they’d signed up for other programs or courses and felt ‘bait and switched’ by good marketers, whereas what you see is what you get when it comes to working with me. I have been through many different struggles in my life, and I’m grateful that because of that, I’m able to relate to my clients on a deeper, more personal level, which allows me to get through to them more effectively.

Lastly, my results! My clients have extraordinary results, and it’s because of the value we provide in my programs, the community I’ve been fortunate to build, and the focus on mindset and personal growth that my clients experience when they work with me and my team.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I love to hang out in the Avalon area whenever I’m in ATL! I know it’s not technically Atlanta but I love the restaurants and shopping and just walking around. My favorite place to eat is Antico pizza!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I want to dedicate my shoutout to my fiancé and business partner, Tom. When I originally started my business, it was as a means to an end to follow him around to support his career as a traveling physical therapist. However, when my business started to grow and I needed more support, he put his career on hold to help me with my business. As time went on, he found ways to not only support me while running the business, but to integrate himself directly into the business. He’s been my biggest cheerleader since day one, and now we get to work and travel together while we continue to build our dream life with one another.
