We had the good fortune of connecting with Erin Elizabeth Burns and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Erin Elizabeth, how do you think about risk?
I live for Risks! I love thinking outside of the box with my auditions, it’s helped me deem the title “secret weapon” from Casting Directors LOL. It’s the same in my personal life. I left the most rewarding, stable teaching job I’ve ever had to take my teaching online & have more flexibilty, & it’s been the best decision I could’ve made. Soon after, I sold everything, built a camper van & traveled out west. I’d never seen the Grand Canyon & just had a moment of “what am I doing with my life”….. Best. Decision. Ever. Actors are scared to travel, to experience life for fear of missing out… but you have to, to be an Actor.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
In 2017, I left a wonderful teaching career behind to enter the online space. Just assuming it would be a slam bank finish & I would instantly be able to support myself, I went headfirst into it & found myself driving for Lyft & Uber instead. Little did I know it takes time to grow a business. Fast forward 3 years & I’ve got 250 Actors in my online program + a full Online Studio with 3 Teachers on staff called E.E.B. Studios. The sacrifice has been a blessing not only to serve Actors all over the world, but to create jobs for other women.
The mission behind E.E.B. Studios is that you’re a Human first, Acting is just what brings us together in the same Zoom room. There is a lot of abuse mentally, physically, & even sexually that occurs in Acting studios & I’ve had it. It’s inexcusable. So needless to say, we create the safest environment possible & foster an environment of encouragement + upliftedness. Like I said, we’re Humans first.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Any local Mexican joint, that’s my jam.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My Mom + Maggie Flanigan. My Mom brought me the local newspaper when I was in the 5th grade & said, “Do you think this is something you’d like to do?,” referencing our local community theater’s auditions for The Sound of Music. It was all over from there.
Maggie Flanigan of the Maggie Flanigan Meisner Studio in NYC. I’d worked a bit professionally before studying with Maggie & day 1 of class asked myself, “How did I ever get a job before this?” She broke me down + built me back up + I left with confidence I never knew I had. You’ll never hear me say I’m the best Actor, but I’m confident in the skills that I have.
