We had the good fortune of connecting with Erika Jones and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Erika, we’d love to start by asking you about lessons learned. Is there a lesson you can share with us?
Never be afraid to ask for help. When I entered the tax industry I was blind and without a mentor, all I knew is I wanted to help members of my community to become aware of their financial situation, beginning with their taxes. I had my nose wide open and wasn’t paying attention to what was really important, guidance. A goal without a plan can be executed, but will it have you on a path to success or a path to disaster?

The most important lesson I learned is even if your intentions are pure, without proper preparation your vision will be overlooked! Having a mentor with more expertise in ANY field or business venture that you are interested in shows that you are serious about reaching the next level!

What should our readers know about your business?
I am a Tax Business Strategist, also known as a mentor and accountability partner to tax professionals. I have served in the finance field for over 10 years. The early years of my career were spent as a tax professional, and educating members of my community on the importance of taking control of their finances. This also taught me the true meaning of “servitude” and adding “value’ to my clients. I never viewed myself as a tax professional I was a financial advisor to my clients.

Eventually, I to gained a wealth of knowledge about adding services to a tax preparation business can also generate more revenue, even annually! This was my gateway to creating generational wealth from multiple streams of income and my client’s were excited about the new services being offered to them. I also began to focus on restructuring my tax businesses by attending different trainings within the tax industry, receiving multiple certifications, and scaling my own tax offices to 6-figures.

Taking advantage of all these opportunities has allowed me to be positioned to serve other tax professionals. Now I have chosen to share my strategic roadmap to creating generational wealth with others! With experience at so many levels of being a business owner in the tax industry, I am able to help tax professionals take their business to the NEXT LEVEL!

I do more than just teach tax professionals how to prepare and submit tax returns for clients. I take pride in creating entrepreneurs and bosses to take control of their future. Working for your dream is just as important as having one. I take PRIDE in mentoring tax businesses not only on the fundamentals of preparing tax returns, but also discovering the importance of having a CEO Mindset!

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
We would have brunch at Breakfast at Barneys’ Then head over to Ponce City Market to play a few rounds of miniature golf and other games on its rooftop which gives a GREAT view of Midtown Atlanta.
Next we would head over to Spa Sydell to enjoy some pampering and much needed self-care
After all this fun we would head over to Apt 4B for some of the best Caribbean food with a twist! In the city
Next we would walk around Piedmpnt park to get some peace and tranquiiluity at our next destination…
Finally we will end our night with dinner and a few rounds of games at Puttshack

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My business partner, Jason Cheek, he is the reason why I confidently mentor tax professionals today! Before our mentorship program was created, I shared with him some of the trials and tribulations I experienced in my 10 years of preparing taxes. I had no true direction on how to manage or market a tax business properly, and not only did it negatively impact my first couple of tax seasons, I had no clue of what it took to catch the eyes of my ideal client.

He motivated me to write down a list of all the negative aspects of owning a tax preparation business and do whatever it took to help as many aspiring entrepreneurs transition smoothly into the tax industry. So that’s exactly what WE did! I realized that alone I could do very little, but together me and Jason could do so much! We spent MONTHS creating an incredible program that would give new and experienced tax professionals the tools to become SUCCESSFUL tax business owners!
