We had the good fortune of connecting with Ericka Taylor and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Ericka, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
Growing up I always saw the world through a different eye. I would look at the shapes and colors of everything around me and saw art. I always loved getting my hands dirty with paint or being in front of a camera. Art has always brought me different feelings but never brought me disappointment. I knew that I could always count on Art to bring me out of any space that I felt unhappy. I could always express myself through my art when I couldn’t with my words. Art is my Freedom of speech, it’s never wrong, and it’s forever changing so I could never get bored with it. So why not do what I love and what always brings me happiness.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
When I say I’m an artist or creative, I’m speaking as an overall for everything that I do. Me being an artist includes my paintings, my modeling, and my clothing designs. What I’m most excited about does change depending on what I’m working on. As of right now what I’m most excited about is my modeling. I just recently signed to a different agency and I’m excited to see where this takes me.

It wasn’t easy getting to where I am today, but my dawg Kendrick Carter got me started with my first photoshoot back in 2018. I couldn’t be more thankful, even to this day we push each other and create timeless art whenever we get together.

Weirdly enough I think that overcoming challenges is the easy part. Getting started and to keep going to those uncomfortable places to keep growing is the hard part. That is my biggest lesson in everything that I go into. I want the world to know that I will always be myself in everything that I do even as I grow to be a bigger creative.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Living in Los Angeles, I feel like there’s so much to do! I love food, I know it may not look like it but I can eat lol. We would definitely hit a bunch of food spots, one of my favorites being Stevie’s, it’s a creole spot. Everything on the menu is bomb asf! Then we would go to the beach and chill for a bit because why not, it’s LA. I would take them to visit the Santa Monica pier at night because its lowkey a vibe if you’ve never been to LA before. Take a walk in Hollywood or down Melrose so they can see what the hype is about that people hear about. After that its free game to what comes our way.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My friends and family always played a crucial role in supporting me through my process. I want to give a shout out to their love and continuous support. It means the world.
