We had the good fortune of connecting with Ericka Sampey and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Ericka, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
The thought process behind starting my own business was that I wanted more for myself. I’ve been working since I was 16 and I have tried multiple fields from fast-food, retail, and call centers but I always knew I was capable of more than just 9-5 employment. I have always been innovative and driven, then I read Steve Harvey’s book “Jump” and it inspired me. I felt inclined to challenge myself with entrepreneurship!
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
My business, Financial Future Savvy, is all about helping people achieve their financial goals for the betterment of their future! It started off as simply credit restoration but it has grown far beyond my expectations! Now, I’m all about helping create savings plans and starting budgets with my clients! I love helping and motivating others to make their dreams a reality! Thats why I started the blog, which I’m excited about, so my clients and potential clients can learn more about my personal journey and feel more comfortable coming to me when they are ready to get serious! That’s the hard part of this business! People don’t like to be transparent about their financial problems.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Fun question! Well, we would have to dress up and have dinner at Little Alley Steakhouse in Buckhead! I love their outdoor area and just the ambiance, period! I would also take them to Fellaship, the cigar lounge, the food and drinks there are AMAZING!! I also would plan a fun hangout at Punch Bowl Social or Painted Pin! For late night hang out we would have to go to Sivas, CRU, or Boogalou Lounge! I’d make sure to introduce them to ATL soul food from BusyBee or This is it! Honestly, a lot of my friends are workout fanatics and very active so I would also schedule boot camp class at E.F.F.E.C.T fitness or climb Stone Mountain!!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
To be honest, my whole circle of family and friends deserves credit and recognition in my story! Starting with my mother, Cynthia! She definitely set the standard for our family. Her constant drive and pursuit of fulfillment is so inspiring! She lost her mom and became a mom in the same year! She was only 18! That’s relatively young, I mean I’m in my 30s and I still call my mom for minor inconveniences, I couldn’t imagine! To see how she pushed on, became responsible for her younger siblings, raised me, went to college, obtained a bachelor’s and a masters, grew in her career, I could go on nonstop about the amazing person I get to call mom, but the point is she is deserving. She taught me to NEVER because victim to my circumstances. All of my aunts are successful and encouraging! Lastly, my group of friends, everyone brings something to the table! My circle is full of creatives and I’m grateful for them!
