We had the good fortune of connecting with Erica Robbins and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Erica, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
When I started Be a Blessing Birmingham my intentions were not to be a 501 (c) 3 nonprofit. When I lived in downtown Birmingham, I noticed a man sitting under a bridge. I decided to go talk to him. After speaking with him I found out his life story. He was a veteran and had a family. Once he came back from the war he struggled with post traumatic stress disorder which caused him to feel more comfortable outside. I soon began to call him my neighbor. I decided I needed to help more neighbors in my community.

What should our readers know about your business?
It definitely was not easy. It was difficult securing founding to be a non profit. I knew my neighbors needed essential hygiene products, so I did what I could to make the business successful. I want the world to know that the homeless community deserves base needs and necessities. It is important that every one knows that we all are a couple pay check away from poverty.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I would take my Best friend to explore downtown Birmingham. First I would take her to eat at Yo momma’s. then we would walk off our food.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
