We had the good fortune of connecting with Eric Williams and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Eric, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I initially worked in corporate America for over a decade before venturing into entrepreneurship. My main motivation in starting my own business, was to be able to create and support new nextgen technology that will make a difference in people’s lives, be in full control of my ideas and earn a fair residual share for my intellectual property as well as my efforts in years to come.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I came to the United States to attend Howard. After 6 years there, I earned 2 degrees, a business degree being the first and a Masters in Computer Science being the latest one, I really understood exactly what I wanted to do in my career. I then pursued opportunities that gave me something new to learn every couple of years. As a result, I amassed a tremendous amount of technological knowledge and business experience across Interactive Media, Healthcare, Pharma & Medical Devices (Biotech), Global Telecommunications, Financial Technology (Fintech), Hospitality Technology, AdTech, Sports Technology and the Apparel & Fashion Technology (FashionTech) industries. I am the most proud about being the first black inventor on multiple USPTO granted patents related to monitoring and securing data off of mobile telecommunications, wifi networks and mobile devices. I am most passionate about using my knowledge to start new ventures as well as mentoring other black entrepreneurs to support them and be a part of their success story. My greatest challenge and lesson is to view obstacles or setbacks as opportunities to learn, not internalize them and pivot to a place or a new path where your stress levels are not negatively impacting your physical or mental health.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
When I am in Atlanta typically I stay in the buckhead area where I check out different restaurants as I am a foody. I enjoy lounges with live music and entertainment and definitely if a NBA game is in town I would make it a point to see a Hawks game.

It’s hard for me to name a place since I like to check out as mush different spots each time I am in Atlanta but Brunch Karaoke at Suite Lounge always have nice vibes.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I grew up in Kingston & St. Andrew, Jamaica before leaving to attend Howard University in Washington, DC, which put me on the path of a successful career and to pursue my dreams. Without my parents sacrifice in ensuring I had a stable and loving environment, as well as the resources to get the best education possible, then I would probably just be another black man that lost his way. So the shoutout must go to them.
