We had the good fortune of connecting with Eric Giles and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Eric, what do you attribute your success to?
I believe the most important factor behind my success thus far is sincerely building a relationship with people. Being a good musician is expected but it’s important to understand that a brand is only as good as how it makes people feel. I want people to feel seen and assured!
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
`I am primarily a saxophonist and I specialize in playing along to any music on the spot and bring new life to your old favorites, I am most proud my ability to blend saxophone into situations you wouldn’t expect it to work in. I have played over and with genres all sorts for all types of people across. the word. I’ve even found myself at a birthday party playing along with new and old Bollywood music for 4 hours with hardly any breaks! These were all songs I had never heard before but that’s what I am known for: being able make music into memories at a moments notice. I can play with DJ’s with no preparation for hours without knowing anything about what they what to play or where want to take the music. I believe that’s what sets me apart from others. I don’t play it safe only perform what I’ve worked on. I play whatever the moment needs because I am there to serve through sound first and foremost.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
There are so many that are responsible for helping me get to where I am. My father has always pushed my dream and kept me focus. My older sister gave us a place to stay here in Atlanta that allowed me to explore the city in a safe way and build my clientele. There are so many more people I need to shoutout but I have to really thank my wife, Atembe. She gave me the confidence to leave teaching and really go after my mission of building a life off of my passion for music and serving others. She has been patient, flexible, and encouraging and I know I wouldn’t be able to do this without her love and support!
