We had the good fortune of connecting with Eric Doherty, President of Atlanta based PERSOWN, Inc., and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Eric, can you talk to us a bit about the social impact of your business?
My company, PERSOWN, Inc., is a global healthcare organization with the Mission to Serve Those in Need.

There are a billion underserved families, in the US, and worldwide, who lack access to good quality healthcare. Also, many people don’t have access to their personal electronic health records. This is both a national AND global problem.  In Atlanta, as an example, there are many families that don’t have access to good medical data that will keep them healthier and live longer. Children, in this case, are the most affected.

The PERSOWN CAPS Platform (Continuous Analytic Processing System) is designed to work broadly across any US, and Global, Healthcare Networks, and with any countries government, in order to serve families quickly, affordably and easily to:

Diagnose & Monitor Conditions

Build, access, own, and control Electronic Health Records

Access to Medical Guidance and Healthcare Providers

Reliably obtain low-cost therapeutics

The Global Opportunity that my company has is that we can leverage fundamental cost advantages to profitably deliver a wide variety of affordable regulatory approved screening tools, diagnostic tests, and monitoring devices, while building electronic health records (EHR) for billions of families.

Our first focus is on helping minimize the awful effects of Sepsis, and find and treat it, as soon as possible.  My father, during his heart transplantation, developed sepsis in the hospital and died.  That’s why this is such a passion of mine.  I don’t want to see other kids lose their parents, family members, friends from Sepsis.

The Problem: Sepsis is the body’s extreme response to an infection and, if not identified and treated quickly, may lead to serious medical consequences and death.

Sepsis is among the deadliest medical conditions with 49,000,000 cases and 11,000,000 deaths across the world. Sepsis is the single largest cause of death in hospitals. Every hour that passes before sepsis is treated; the risk of death increases by 7.6%.

Sepsis is complex as there are many possible viral, bacterial and fungal strains. Identifying the infection source quickly is critical to improve outcomes. Current practices are limited mostly to laboratory processes that are slow to get results for clinicians.

What should our readers know about your business?
PERSOWN’s CAPS healthcare platform, along with its global partnership with world data analytics organization, www.SAS.com, is truly building a global healthcare entity that will revolutionize healthcare data transformation around the world.

Today, patient records moving from one entity to another are a jumbled mess. What we are doing is taking all of the data coming from hospitals, nursing homes, rehab facilities, hospital at home settings, and remote monitored patients, and providing seamless transition and real time data analytics for both providers and patients. It’s a HUGE lift.

The global relationship we have built with SAS is the perfect melding of technology and predictive AI analysis. The ability to catch diseases earlier, and treat them earlier, and save lives, is a tremendous drive for me.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I travel a lot, both nationally and internationally. Atlanta is one of the best cities to visit and enjoy.  And yes, has THE WORLD’S BEST AIRPORT.

I moved to Atlanta a little over 7 years ago, and it’s amazing how things have grown in that short period of time.

For me, living in the NE part of the city, the downtown areas of both Roswell and Alpharetta are great attractions. Both have excellent restaurants, and Alpharetta has Avalon, which is both a shopper’s and diner’s dream location.

Rumi’s at Avalon is one of my local favorites and is a great place to people watch and have a great meal.  MF is another one.  I’m a sushi-holic and MF has a chic ambiance and great food.  Another favorite spot in ATL is Ray’s on River. Great location. Great Service, and GREAT food.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I’ve been very blessed to have a great family support system. I grew up in healthcare. My dad, Butch, was a pharmacist. My mom, Marilynn, obtained her masters in microbiology. Not many women in the 1970’s were working in the science field, and she accomplished this while raising two kids. With my dad running a major part of Walgreen’s business in IL, during its peak growth in the 60’s, 70’s, and 80’s, I learned a lot about the ins and outs of healthcare. I always had the inkling that I would end up working and running businesses within the healthcare sector. Both were very supportive of me and my endeavors, and pushed me to be better, and to grow and learn, as much as I could. That provided me with the drive to pursue my business and science degrees, along with my two MBA’s.

Another shoutout also goes to my 5 kids. I’ve got two sons, Stephen and Cole, that recently transferred down to Athens and are currently enrolled at UGA-Go DAWGS! My daughter, Alexandra, is working as an executive at a marketing firm in St. Louis, MO, and another son, Conor, is working in healthcare, too, with one of the largest Medicaid/Medicare providers in the nation.  My youngest daughter Olivia is in middle school.  All have done extremely well in both their studies, and now, some are moving into their careers.
