We had the good fortune of connecting with Eric Crosby and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Eric, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
When we started the podcast, we really just wanted an excuse to get together and eat chicken wings. We were all pretty obsessed with chicken wings, and while meeting up at a restaurant, eating and chatting was fun, we thought, “Hey, this could be a podcast.” The more we talked about it internally, and the more we talked about it with other people, the thought we kept having was, “We have to do this.”
When it came to the format of the podcast, we really wanted to keep it loose, without much structure, and make it something we would want to listen to. That’s pretty cliche in the podcast world, but many podcast hosts will make an episode, promote it, push it out to the world, but never listen to it. We wanted to make something that we could listen to on car trips with our families, or when we just needed a laugh.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I’m proud that we got this podcast off the ground. Our first season has been a great time of learning new things about podcasting and social media. Between the four of us, most things we talk about are just great dreams—things that sound great, but never really come to fruition. For us to say, “We’re gonna do this” and actually do it for a full season is a big accomplishment for us.
I think anytime you try to get 3-4 people together to do something a challenge you’ll run into is scheduling. We’ve had a few instances where one or two of us couldn’t make it to a recording, but we’ve been able to keep the core together and produce a show. Some shows were hits, most of them were probably misses, but we’ve been able to collaborate together and put out something that we’re proud of, and that we actually enjoy listening to.
One thing I’m learning through this process is how big and diverse the chicken wing community is. Obviously, there’s a lot of wing fans in Buffalo, NY, but Atlanta has a lot of great wing places as well. We’ve been able to use social media to get in touch with wing fans in from Buffalo, to Connecticut, to Nebraska and Wyoming.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Our favorite wing place that we’ve tried on the show is a place called Moon’s Wings & Hibachi. It’s a little outside of the city in Marietta, GA, but not too far away from Truist Park if you’re stopping in for a Braves game.
Taco Mac has places all over the city and suburbs and their wings are delicious as well.
We all live outside the city in Marietta and Woodstock and those downtown areas are a lot of fun. The Marietta Square and the Marietta Square Market are two great hangout spots, while downtown Woodstock has a great brewery and BBQ restaurant right next to an outdoor playground for kids.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I think our families deserve a shoutout. They give us the time to go and sit around, eat wings and record a podcast. Our wives and kids are listeners and enjoy that we have an outlet for this passion of ours.
