We had the good fortune of connecting with Enoch McKie and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Enoch, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking.
I am a firm believer on betting on yourself. If you want to exceed your current circumstances, it requires risk. Accept those risks, go into them with open arms knowing that you will learn from any mistakes you make. Leave no room for doubt, because doubt will only slow you down and eventually turn you around to the life you knew before.
I shifted from a corporate job to a full-time entrepreneur. It was the biggest risk/gamble of my life. I left comfort to pursue my passion. However, growth is never comfortable. While I have experienced many growing pains, I don’t regret betting on myself. I am excited about each day because my day is the pursuit of what I am most passionate about.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I am a Filmmaker/Photographer/Videographer. I’m all about story, whether that is a photoshoot, a commercial, or a webseries. I get into my client’s mindset to understand what story they want to tell with this visual and bring that vision to life. With my own stories, I aim to tell authentic tales from angles/perspectives that we have never seen before.
I got to where I am today by constantly putting one foot in front of the other. It sounds simple, but I’ve found the hardest thing to do is keep the motion when you’re faced with tragedy, hardship, and failures. However, what I’ve learned is that failure is a friend, hardship shows you who you truly are, and tragedy helps you develop your why. These are important things to learn about yourself in all pursuits.
I am most proud of my team and the community I’ve built around me. It’s amazing to witness us helping each other out, holding each other accountable, and being there for each other. Everyone knows this life thing isn’t easy. It’s even harder doing it alone. My team never allows me to do life alone, and for that, I always pour my everything into them.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
First of all, I walking them through the beltline with a stop at Ponce City Market. I’m taking them to eat at Busy Bees and Mr. Everything. We’re hitting the skating rink, either Cascade or Golden Glide. I’m introducing them to my team and we’re doing some VR at Sandbox, playing games at Your Third Spot, and having fun at Putt Shack. It’s Atlanta, so there’s probably a music, food, or wine festival, and we’re going to all of them.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
First shoutout, I have to thank my Mama. She never allowed me to live up to anything less than my potential. It was a hard upbringing because she didn’t let me do the things that my peers did. Then, I often didn’t understand, but now I do. My work ethic and the pursuit of what I love, I owe directly to her because she taught me and was a constant example of if you want it, you have to go get it. I love her for never letting me settle for being less than who she knows I am.
The second shoutout is Fire Nation. Fire Nation is my group of friends and business partners. We hold each other accountable and keep the flames of our passions lit in each other. Without them, I wouldn’t be here. Forever grateful for their kind words, their time, and the energy they have poured into me and my dreams.
