We had the good fortune of connecting with Ena Johnson and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Ena, is there something you can share with us that those outside of the industry might not be aware of?
Enazi’s Elixirs is a healing botanical company that sell oils, plants, and botanicals, but we actually make everything – from “earth”! Our oils are made in house from natural organic oils, transformed through our tempering process, and bottled or (glass) jarred in our space. We use herbs that we have grown, harvested, foraged, and dried in-house before being added to our healing products. And our flower essences and dried florals are hand-picked and processed to ensure they right energy for your wellness journey.

Even as plant retailers, our process is organic. Our plants are planted in custom soil mixes that include our house-made compost (which is process of its own!), mulch, and sand, but we specifically don’t use mixes that contain perlite, Styrofoam, or non-renewable resources. We use terracotta and ceramic pots, often thrifted, to remain consistent with our mission to remain sustainable and keep our footprint low.

It is easy to use buzz words like “natural” and “sustainable”, but we really take it ground level in sourcing from Mother Earth directly. We play in the dirt so you can enjoy the healing gifts nature has to offer!

What should our readers know about your business?
Enazi’s Elixirs is a healing botanical brand built on science. Yes, I love a good scent and aesthetically pleasing florals, but I dedicate 25% of my time to studying botany, horticulture, disease, medicine, and the environment to ensure I’m am grounded in proper knowledge.

I started my making elixirs in 2012, but didn’t formally create my business until 2020 because I couldn’t see my own potential. My father used to tell me over and over “this stuff is amazing, you should sell it!” but I always brushed him off saying, “the market is already saturated” or “I just make these for my friends and family” because I wasn’t ready to put the work in. But the more I saw my products clearing and healing skin disorders, the harder it was to ignore the demand from my community, so I started putting the work in.

As a creative, the admin side of business is always a challenge – maintaining a website, bookkeeping, etc can feel tedious, but staying organized and on top of those tasks are what give you the freedom to create and focus on what you love while still being able to pay the bills.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Atlanta has everything and then some! When my friends and family come to visit, I always take them to Dekalb Farmers Market, Jinya Ramen Bar, and Phenix & Dragon bookstore. For my friends that like hiking, I take them to Island Ford, a park along side the Chattahoochee River and Kennesaw Mountain for great views of the city. Areas like Atlantic Station, Little Five Points, and the Belt Line never disappoint.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My dance community has been extremely supportive and encouraging throughout my botanical journey. Djoli Kelen lead by Christian Carter, Shannon Byrd, and Kody Kae brought me into the African dance community and given me the freedom and confidence to stand stronger in my personal identity. I am so grateful for their influence and instruction.
