We had the good fortune of connecting with EmpressQueen Kenya and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi EmpressQueen, career-wise, where do you want to be in the end?
Honestly, I would never say end goal because there are always goals in mind for me to achieve. My lifetime goal and where I want to be professionally by the end of my career is to be an avid creative writer for several popular drama series and films. This includes being a part of a team and creating some solo projects as well. I truly admire the likes of Courtney Kemp, Issa Rae, Shonda Rimes, Terri J. Vaughn, Cas Sigers and Ava DuVernay.

I would also love to be at my highest level of success in helping others along this life journey by assisting them as their spiritual life coach. It is my deepest desire to serve humanity by being supportive through spiritual guidance and practice with my life coaching skills. My gifts and talents are coupled in both these areas as a creative and intuitive being.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
My love for writing and helping others is exhibited daily. I’m an educator by trade but a creative artist and being by nature. It’s natural for me to help and serve others and write to create stories. I wrote my first self-published novel in 2008. It’s entitled Black Butterfly Emerged. Back then, it was all a dream to put it all together and see it manifest into an actual material book. Looking back at my first book, I can see how my writing skills have improved over the years. Since then, I have written five more books and am currently working on one. My latest joy is a book of three short stories entitled Journeys. It’s a compilation of love, drama, mystery, fantasy, and thriller. My life often inspires the stories I write, and of course, I have a wild imagination. My books are on the Amazon.com platform. I have transitioned in personality and character over the last 14 years. Some of my books are under the Author name Sistah Kenya or Queen Kenya.

My character and personality set me apart from many artists and authors. We are all unique and individually talented. The expression of one talent will look many ways. That is the one thing that I love about being creative. There are no limits or boundaries on what my creation expresses or becomes. I have always wanted to write stories since I was ten years old. As a kid, I would often read tween novels, mysteries, and comics. As I furthered my education, I earned an AA in Early Childhood Education, a BA in Journalism/Communications, and an MFA in Creative Writing. I was determined to complete my educational goals. However, when I entered the workforce, I was a young mother determined to fulfill her goals and care for her children. When I was offered a job in the public school system, I gladly accepted it. It allowed me to teach students from Pre-K to 12th grade. I served in regular academics and special education settings also. I am now a Kindergarten teacher, Spiritual Life Coach, and Creative Writer. I found a way to compile all my gifts to serve humanity, teach the children I love, and write the books I love to create.

It has not been easy achieving these goals, but I am thankful for the strength that has always been within me to keep pushing. I’m grateful for the parents, friends, and family that constantly encouraged me to stay the course and on the path. Working in the public school system and being on the same schedule as my two daughters, Kazza and Kiera, helped me care for them and complete school online, which worked for us. Being a single parent is never easy, but I am grateful for the village that helped raise my kids (Walton Communities, SouthWest Fulton Cultural Arts, Shaw Temple AME Zion, and Pebblebrook & Banneker High School). Along this journey, I have learned that one should never give up on their dreams and goals. If you can dream it, you can achieve it! If only you believe in yourself and are willing to put forth the action to accomplish the mission set forth.

I want the world to know that EmpressQueen Kenya is a lover of humanity. A spiritual cosmic being, that has found her place within this world. I am here to serve through my talents and my gifts. I am free and liberated in all my expressions. However, I don’t JUDGE! I never judge others or project my thoughts and beliefs about life onto others. Instead, I encourage every human being who crosses my path to be the best they can be. I support them and encourage them with whatever time is given to me. I use my writing and spiritual coaching skills to serve, for they are all intertwined within me as a display of my gifts and the creative being that I am.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I’m an Outdoors kind of gal so we would definitely spend time in nature. Sweet Water Creek State Park would be at the top of the list. Then a visit to Piedmont park in the city would be most appropriate. There is a mixture of beautiful scenery, walking & bike trails, a pond and also a playground for the kids. Who comes to Atlanta without visiting the King Center? That definitely has to be on the list along with the Tupac Amaru Shakur Foundation. Food festivities would revolve around local restaurants like Tassili’s Raw Reality Café, Slutty vegan, Chef Rob’s Caribbean Cafe, Rays on the River, and the Oceanire Seafood Room. I can never get enough seafood being a New Orleans native living in Atlanta 20 years, the authentic taste of cajun has never left me. So, my ultimate round the way spot would be Cajun Seafood Market on Campbellton Rd.Baby!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
First of all, I would like to thank Terri J. Vaughn for allowing me to serve at her Green Room Actors Lounge in 2011-2012 as the Author Expo Coordinator in Atlanta, GA. That was the initial catalyst to realize I wanted to write more than just books. It also allowed me to meet several creative artists, authors, and actors like myself. I gained friendships and connections that still are intact today! Secondly, I would like to thank my Best Friend, Veronica Marie, the Feminine Mentor, Fitness and Emotional Wellness Coach. She allowed me to go through her life coaching certification program that extended an opportunity to grow in my skillset and begin my mission to serve. There are so many that I have been influenced and encouraged by along this journey. It’s hard to narrow it down, but I will try. I would not be the woman I am today without understanding the importance of Knowing Thyself. Nor the mindset to be free and liberated in my sexuality and the importance of communicating effectively while embracing my true self and lifestyle without the help of Kenya K. Stevens and her husband Carl Stevens, aka Rakhem Seku. These two created a platform and online school that offers social networking connections and informative courses. Their latest books, entitled UPLVL Communication and 9 Expressions of Love have been a pillar for me. Along with a plethora of supporting literature that has become a part of my home library.

If I could just name a few other books that were helpful for me along this journey:
How to Manifest with Dark energy- Ashera Star Goddess
The Kybalion- Three Initiates
Alchemy and Mysticism- Taschen
The Power of Now-Eckhart Tolle
How to get out of your own way- Tyrese Gibson
The Compendium of The Emerald tablets- Billy Carson
