We had the good fortune of connecting with Emmanuel “Showtime” Malette and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Emmanuel, do you have a favorite quote or affirmation?
“Work ethic may get you in the door, but it is God’s grace that will provide you a seat at the table.” That’s a quote I came up with a few years ago that I now try to live by. The opportunities that I have received in my career were all grand displays of God’s goodness. When I worked on a solo film with Oscar Nominated/Emmy Winning David Darg, I did not work toward getting that opportunity, God gave it to me. It just fell it my lap. I am one of the hardest workers in the room and I believe that work ethic is an important part of success. But it wasn’t necessarily my “work” that got me that opportunity. It was God’s grace and I am thankful for that.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
What has gotten me so far is my “why.” My “why” keeps me focused and grounded. My mom sacrificed so much for me. So whenever I work, I think of her. I think of her sleeping on the floor and giving the only bed in the house to me. I think of her spending her last so that I could have a good high school graduation party. I think of her going to food banks so that I could have food when I came back home from college during breaks. So I WILL pay it forward to her. That is what has driven me to get this far and what is driving me to go even further. It hasn’t been easy. I’ve faced MUCH rejection on this journey and A LOT of financial uncertainty. But God has used these things to help me to trust in him more. Your past does not define you. God is using it to grow you into the person that he created you to be.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Old Lady Gang is LIKE THAT!!!! We’ll definitely go there. And a bunch of restaurants because I am a foody, hahahaha. The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My mom! She has been my number one support system. I am so thankful to her for always giving so much to help me make my dreams become a reality.
