We had the good fortune of connecting with Emma O’dell and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Emma, we’d love for you to start things off by telling us something about your industry that we and others not in the industry might be unaware of?
I think starting from scratch as a content creator takes a lot more work than expected. It consists of reaching out to hundreds of brands on your own, learning negotiation skills, and perfecting your photo-taking style.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I create fashion, beauty, lifestyle, or travel content for Instagram. I’d like to think that I have a very authentic and transparent approach to it–I really just want to use the Instagram platform to inspire others the way that I’m inspired (by other creators) every day. I’m most proud of the time and effort I took to learn about what it takes to get started in brand collaborations. Working with brands I admire and incorporating them into my love for aesthetics has been so cool for me.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If I had a friend visiting the Atlanta area for the weekend, I’d definitely have them check out a few of my favorite places. When it comes to food, I love Cafe Intermezzo. Their pasta dishes are great and they have wonderful coffees and desserts as well. The Battery is a fun location for a night out, and the Beltline is always a good place to chat and get a good look around Atlanta.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I learned a lot about what I’m doing from Instagram content creators Danielle Glanz (@shestyledwhat) and Allysa Larson (@allysa.larson). They have a podcast that helped with getting started and beginner tips. My friends and family were also great at encouraging me while I was trying something new.
