We had the good fortune of connecting with Emma Gilbert and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Emma, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
My decision to start my art business wasn’t based on one specific moment or thought—it was a natural progression. I’ve always been a painter; being an artist has been a part of who I am for as long as I can remember. Over time, my passion and dedication organically evolved into a full-time career, and eventually, I turned it into a business where I now paint murals professionally. It felt like the natural next step, and I’m grateful to be doing what I love every day.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
As a muralist, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed in such a saturated industry. What sets me apart is my distinctive style—blending portraiture with whimsical, storytelling elements inspired by my travels and personal experiences. My work reflects my current struggles, fixations, and the stories I want to share with the world.

Was it easy to start this business and find my artistic voice? Absolutely not. There were moments when I felt like giving up because I wasn’t seeing growth. But I kept pushing forward, and now I’m proud to say that pursuing my passion has led me to a six-figure career.

Beyond creating art, I’m also committed to mentoring aspiring artists, helping them navigate the industry and develop their own unique styles. I want to show young creatives that success is possible with persistence, originality, and a willingness to keep going—even when the path gets tough.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I wouldn’t go anywhere, honestly. I’m such a fan of what I’ve built at my home and what surrounds my home. I think we’d just grab a few drinks, hang out on my back porch and chill with my chickens. That’s my kind of weekend.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I want to dedicate my shoutout to the next generation of aspiring artists. My goal is to share my journey and inspire young creatives to believe in themselves and pursue their dreams.
