We had the good fortune of connecting with Emma Ferrante and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Emma, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
To me, the most important factor of “success” in my business would be gifting someone with a new perspective through my artwork.

It is one of my deepest beliefs that art has the ability to draw someone in. Beauty captivates the mind, and what follows can captivate the soul. Once the soul has been captivated, everything begins to change.

People suddenly seem more open to new perspectives:
perspectives that invite them to ponder beauty, to consider compassion, to wrestle with what is worth having faith in, and to eventually invite others to see the ways that beauty is woven through every corner of their life, too.

Art may appear stagnant, but I believe it is far more dynamic than we give it credit for. Beautiful things have the power to bring forth life.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I’ve grown really passionate about making art that tells stories. In particular, I love to make what I call “painterly metaphors”, which are visual art pieces that communicate an abstract concept, typically faith-based. These visuals are mostly unveiled within my own prayer or reflection, as I tend to grasp things in my imagination better when I can see them on paper. For me, it’s through writing and drawing that I can gift my faithful discoveries to the world.

If my art only touches one person,
that is one soul which will forever have the fingerprint of the Spirit at work in His children.
Praise God.

Onto the challenges, it’s not always been easy to be bold in creating things. Imposter Syndrome and creative ruts are the sneaky and sly thieves of innovative discoveries that threaten to impact the Kingdom for the better. They have continually attempted to trap me in a cycle in making things that have already been made before. Staying comfortable in creativity is no way to be creative at all.

“The world offers you comfort, but you were not made for comfort. You were made for greatness.”
-Pope Benedict XVI

On earth as in Heaven.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Most importantly, it’s vital to credit any amount of my creative success to my Lord, Jesus Christ. I think it’s been tempting in our culture to take credit for any talents or gifts that have been bestowed upon me, but it is by the grace of God that I have been able to let my artistic nature to testify to the ultimate Creator. The Holy Spirit is the source of all inspiration, and as creatives, we simply must be open to God’s promptings. He is the pinnacle of all things beautiful, enchanting, and glorious — I just seek to be a vessel of His overflowing fountain of wisdom.

Secondly, it is my Mom and Dad who have played a pivotal role in my identity as an artist. Lovingly deeming me the “Crafty Tornado” growing up, my Mom has paved way for me to feel invited to DIY-just-about-anything. With my Mom, an exploring palette-knife artist, and my Dad, a gifted sketcher, I was always encouraged to make things. If I had a dream, my parents were going to do everything in their power to make it happen — including hours spent cutting, sanding, and staining wood frames for my large pieces of wall decor. It was Santa who gave me my first set of canvases, and my Mom who put me in watercolor classes shortly after. It was my Dad who took me on Daddy/Daughter drawing dates down by the river. When I began selling art at pop-up shows, it was my parents who mapped out the whole booth in our garage with me, ensuring that we’d utilized every square inch of space. Not to mention the sacrificed years of work to send me to a university where I could pursue what I love — art.

It is because of the confidence they’ve instilled in me that I believe I can accomplish anything I put my mind to. Above all, they have given me the invaluable gift of faith, as I can rest assured that my Heavenly Father will provide for me in all things.
