We had the good fortune of connecting with Emily Klimkiewicz and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Emily, every day, we know how much execution matters, but we think ideas matter as well. How did you come up with the idea for your business?
I have loved astrology since I was little! I remember reading my mom’s astrology books when I was a kid – Linda Goodman’s “Sun Signs” was always on our bookshelf. I started seriously studying astrology in 2012 in NYC where I lived for 23 years, and from the very first class I was hooked. I studied French and Art History in college and to me learning astrology felt like learning a language: a language of symbols that you use to decode an astrology chart. And there are so many connections to myths and ancient cultures in astrology, which appeals to my art historian brain! So after that first class I started reading as many astrology books and taking as many classes as I could, and when we moved to Atlanta in 2016 I sought out the astrology community here.
At that time, we astrologers were anticipating the upcoming astrology of 2020, and we knew it would be a huge turning point. When the Covid pandemic hit, I was blown away by how precisely the astrology reflected what we were living through. It gave me real comfort to see the bigger picture, and to know that there would be life after the pandemic. That reassurance – that sense of perspective – was something I wanted to share. During the pandemic lockdown I began giving Zoom readings for friends and family, and I loved it so much that it naturally grew into Emily Neptune Astrology.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
It has been a long road with many twists and turns! Most of my professional life has been spent working as an interior designer, and I am still working in the design world while I’m building my astrology business. Moving to Atlanta after spending my entire adult life in NYC was the hardest thing I’ve ever done, and creating a life for myself here has been challenging but really gratifying. I had to start over from scratch and really put myself out there to build a new community, both personally and professionally. It gave me the chance to reinvent myself and ultimately gave me the courage to choose a new path with my astrology business.
So what I’m most proud of is building my new life in Atlanta, and building Emily Neptune Astrology while raising two kids and working a full-time job in the design world. It hasn’t always been easy. I’ve had to carve out time late at night, invest in coaches and classes, and keep showing up even when I am exhausted. But I think dealing with these challenges has made me more resilient, and made my work more authentic.
I am so excited to continue to expand my astrology business! I taught my first few classes last year and realized I love teaching and learn so much from it. My hope is to continue to build my own astrology community and bring people together in a meaningful way to learn about how to use astrology in their everyday lives. In these challenging times I think people are longing for more community, and my brand of astrology gives people a framework for living life with hope and without fear. My goal is to convey to my clients and students that everything moves in cycles, and that they are here for a reason and that they are not alone. We are all in this together.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Atlanta can be kind of an enigma but it reveals itself in its neighborhoods! Because we don’t have a super enticing downtown here, I feel like you have to work a little harder to really get a feel for the city.
I love driving people around and gawking at the cool houses and amazing architecture in the different east side neighborhoods near where I live, from beautiful bungalows in Oakhurst or Virginia Highlands to amazing midcentury homes in Oak Grove or Briarlake.
I love antiquing and vintage shopping, and Kudzu Antiques + Modern, Motherlode, and Decatur Estate are always on my best of Atlanta list. For food, I love Delbar for a special dinner – the food is so incredible there and the restaurant is so lovely. I always try to get a reservation there when I have someone coming in from out of town. I love taking people to try the arepas from Arepa Mia, the dirty chai latte from Banjo coffee, and the breakfast burrito from Leftie Lee’s, all in Avondale. But my all time favorite place to eat is Buford Highway – Mamak for amazing Malaysian food and LanZhou Ramen for noodles.
And when I don’t feel like going far, I love Madras Mantra which is in a nondescript strip mall in North Decatur near my home and has the best vegetarian Indian food – I was surprised and thrilled to realize that their sister restaurant in Manhattan was one of my favorites when I lived in NYC!
One thing I really love about Atlanta is how it truly is a ‘city in a forest’ – it is easy to find such beautiful nature in the city or just outside the perimeter. I love taking visitors for walks in the Lullwater Preserve near Emory and spotting blue heron, turtles, woodpeckers and hawks (even the occasional copperhead). And Arabia Mountain is amazing – it is an easy drive from Decatur and an easy hike to the top. I watched the full moon rise from there recently – it was so spectacular. You do not feel like you are just a few miles outside of one of the busiest cities in the country! It’s so peaceful and magical up on top of the mountain.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I want to shout out my family! My daughter Annabelle and my son William inspire me every day. Being a mom has influenced my professional life so much. I have always attempted to harmonize my work life with my home life, with varying degrees of success. I don’t really believe you can “balance” the two, especially as a woman since we bear so much of the mental/emotional load in our society. Striving for harmony between work and home life feels more attainable. I have tried to model following your heart and pursuing things you are passionate about for my kids. Also, not being scared to start new things or to shift gears with your career.
I also want to shout out my boyfriend Peter – he is a brilliant entrepreneur himself and has been so supportive of me personally and professionally. He is an incredible coach! I am so much more of an artistic visionary than a business person, and I have such a creative brain that it has always been hard for me to get excited about the business side of things which has led to a lot of frustration and despair for me in the past. Peter reminds me that it takes a plan to create a successful business, and that you get there step by step – there’s no overnight success. He has helped me put structure around my business in a meaningful way and to keep my eye on the future vision of what I want it to be, which has been invaluable. I am so lucky to have him in my corner.
