We had the good fortune of connecting with Emily Blacc and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Emily, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I wanted to start something inspiring, and something to get me off my feet. I had just gotten out of a toxic relationship of 5 years with a 2 year old. Growing up I saw my mom selling fajas and I remembered how women felt so confident wearing them, including myself. Then at that time I started BBL’s, lipo, tummy tucks were just starting to become mainstream so I hopped on the bandwagon. Faja’s can give you the similar effect!
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
My business is an online e-commerce, but selling fajas, Colombian body shapewear on steroids. LOL just kidding. Colombian fajas were originally created for post op, but women loved the effect of them that they gradually led to women Shapewear. The best feeling of being in this business is the amount of women who feel more confident wearing our shapewear.
Getting into this business and learning to deal with customers in my industry was definitely not easy. It’s alot of trial and error. From customers DM’ing us pictures of them half naked! Or customer returning worn shapewear, but sweaty and foul smelling (if you know what I mean.) However, def doesn’t overweigh the benefits from this business.
What I want the world to know about me and my brand is that anything is possible. I’m a mom, daughter of immigrants and the journey has been difficult. But I never let where I come from affect me. What I’m most excited about scaling my business in its 3rd year (2022) because I’ve learned alot of learning curves within the last two year and im ready. Honesty, my goal is to hit half a million in sales in 2022, and Im confident I will hit that goal.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I’d definitely take my friend to all the major tourist areas like the world of coca cola, aquarium, Piedmont park for a picnic, and def a night out to Havana or a nice rooftop bar.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Def want to dedicate to my family, especially my mom and partner. Starting and scaling my business has been a super rough journey and without the help and support from these people it would have 10x times harder to get where I am thus far.
