Meet Emanuel Stewart | Master Barber

We had the good fortune of connecting with Emanuel Stewart and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Emanuel, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I wanted to gain financial independence and stability. I also felt the urge to become an entrepreneur in an ever growing industry with no worries of how to start.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I came from cutting hair on the porches of section 8 housing. Going door to door cutting for my community but before all of that began let me tell you of a story about a kid nicknamed Fresh. Facing adversity moving into an unfamiliar territory of a project home with no knowledge of the area nor the people. I moved into a little city called Scottdale. I struggled through school getting along with other kids of the neighborhood and wanted the same respect but was treated as an outcast. Eventually I learned martial arts from an older cousin that lived with us which gave me a different type of discipline. I then became empowered and wanted to learn more things so I started to study barbering because I also have an oldest brother whom is a master barber. So I take on an apprenticeship at his barbershop location that he owned. I taught myself how to cut my own hair and took the skills I’ve learned and that my brother had taught me then gained the confidence to begin my journey. I got the name “Fresh” from the community because they believed that I always kept a nice appearance although in all humbleness I have never forgotten about the people in turn selling them new clothes, shoes, or a fresh haircut. And these deeds kept people around me confident and many of those people are still around today receiving my services. It was a difficult process but years later after coming out of the army I realized this a passion I could not let go of and just like Spider-Man my city needed me. So I continued my craft through my own business called “Fresh Cutz ATL” and now is a very lucrative business and I have many clients to support me on my journey to success.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I would take him to a 420 friendly air bnb somewhere in Colorado cause he likes smoking and relaxing. Nice scenery and have breakfast there then find some hangout spots for some laser tag or something cool like A.i. created game simulation since we’re both gamers.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
God first and foremost deserves the credit and recognition. Also a good friend and Pastor by the name of Shanan E. Jones for allowing me to participate in the Cutting Thru Crisis charity events to give back to my community and build a solid foundation amongst new and returning clients. It helped me to become engaged and focused on my craft and the people who needed my services. It also gave me an extraordinary opportunity to reach the people in a way we all can relate to with a nice image to uphold.
