We had the good fortune of connecting with Elohin and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Elohin, how has your background shaped the person you are today?
I grew up on the Eastside of Detroit, Michigan in a single parent home raised by my mom, aunt and late grandmother. We were poor and or a working class family but always managed to have enough to somehow make it. Growing up mainly around women, my uncles were really the only male figures that I had besides my friends and a few guys in my neighborhood. I was undeniably a problem kid that was stubborn, defiant and always in trouble. I don’t co-sign or champion all of the bad decisions that I made but it did help make me the man that I am today. My background and my enviorment along with my faith taught me resilience and helped to build my character as a person.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Music has always been theraputic and a way for me to express my feelings and emotions. What I started to notice early on is that my music connected with the emotions of others as well. I don’t get caught up in an image and I don’t try to be trendy. My goal is to be as authentic as I possibly can. One of the things that stand out in my music is that I am very open about my faith and how God has radically and drastically changed my life. I try to write my songs in a way that everybody can relate regardless of what you believe but, at the same time not compromise the biblical conviction that I hold. I have songs that make you think or could make you cry and I have songs that you can get hype too or vibe out too. As a recording artist it’s so lit and hype to watch people listen to a song or an album that I made and response positively to it especially during a live performance. It’s a huge adrenaline rush! Even if I get a negative response I use it as motivation and fuel. I consider myself a self motived and determined person. I’m a straight up go getter. Besides the hand of God moving in my life and the support of my family and friends, being determined and self motivated is the next biggest component to my success and why I am able to keep going. It’s also fun to me. I enjoy making music, being creative and making a difference in peoples lives. When I’m not traveling and on stage doing music I’m traveling to schools across Michigan speaking into the lives of the youth. I strongly believe that if we don’t help pour into and build up our youth then we are doing them and the world a huge disservice. I’ve learned that who I am when I’m off stage is more important than what I do or who I am on stage.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If you come and hang out with me in Detroit, then we have to hit Greek Town, Mexican Town, one of our summer music festivals, the studio, a church service and honestly we gone hit the streets, and the schools and serve the community.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I am never a fan of shoutouts and thank you’s because I am always afraid of leaving someone out. I have a ton of people that I could give shoutout’s to but I’m going to keep it simple. This is a big shoutout to everybody!! Everybody who has loved me even when I am difficult to love. Everybody who has helped me by challenging me and or encouraging me. Everybody who has ever been apart of the creative process with me. Everybody who listens to my music and or promotes and spreads the word about my music. Everybody ranging from my beautiful wife, my kids and my mom all the way to radio/ media outlets and other artist. Big shoutout and thank you!!
