We had the good fortune of connecting with Elliott McKnight and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Elliott, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
For most of my life, autonomy over myself was important to me. I also wanted to help people with executing ideas and bringing a different perspective to what can be achieved creatively. I believe I come from that mindset and I’m a bi-product of the era of making something happen for yourself. It’s tough to have complete faith in someone else and a lot of times people may have limiting ideas of what your potential can be. Even deeper than that, it can just be completely wrong. They may see you in a light that isn’t the best fit, which is ok, but you have to find a way to create your own. That’s legacy. That’s how you build a heritage.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I’ve been focused on immersive tools such as VR lately. I’ve been fortunate enough to execute ideas around showcasing video in virtual reality, explore ambisonics, and find a way to make it more approachable. It’s been interesting for me because it puts you at the center of conversations regarding tech and inadvertently makes you the spokesperson of the industry. Although this ins’t my goal, I want to show the possibilities of intersecting art, tech and design into one practice. And that can change over time, but the philosophies and principles remain constant. Meaning, how do you balance the relationship between each in order to make something that can be useful, innovative, and thought-provoking at the same time? Without overwhelming people? I’ve learned the power of simplicity, and taking things step by step. Learning that it’s not cool to be so far ahead that no one can understand what you’re saying, but just ahead of enough to inspire people to walk with you.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Ah man, this is good. So I’d say we could go eat at Mujo, grab a drink a the Candler hotel, we could hang out at The HIGH and then maybe go to the Illuminarium.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I’d like to give a shout out to my sister Alexia. Throughout my entire life, she’s never judged me or made me feel less than. Every time I had an idea, she supported me. She has been a constant foundation in my life and with all the things I’ve been through, she’s always been there for me.
