We had the good fortune of connecting with Elle Al-Muslim and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Elle, how do you think about risk?
Risk is something that is avoided but oftentimes, is inevitable when the goal is to achieve something you haven’t in the past. Starting this company was certainly a risk but considering the industry, not a tough sell. I risked the financial comforts of corporate America but with those comforts come discomforts that have often been disproportionate to the reward. I think understanding what you really want and what you’re willing to do are part of the gamble. Once that’s done, it makes the risk seem more like a safer investment. You can focus on succeeding vs the risk of failure which is a part of all tasks, large or small.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I desire to create a healing environment. Regardless of what ails you, finding a remedy, and living in a space that maintains overall health is my goal. I have a background in real estate and accounting but what I do now is what motivates me daily. I was raised to find natural alternatives to Western medicine and have used that as my foundation in my hobby turned small business. Apothecare-Me was started when I realized after years of hearing it, that there was a market for truly natural products.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Ooooooh I love to eat. I have a standing Wednesday dinner appointment at Steamhouse Lounge. That would probably be the first place we go. We would check out a concert at Mable House. It’s such a great time and a great way to see some creatives showcase their work. Poor Calvin’s has food and drinks that seem to be the work of a sorcerer. Twisted Soul is doing the Lord’s work with everything on their menu. As for exciting people, I would have to show off my friends, my village. They are all so accomplished and well-rounded. They are such exciting, inspiring people. I could easily spend an entire week with just them. Never a dull moment in a truly loving environment.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I have to say that I am so thankful for my family. My friends are my family and my family is my family. And they have all been SUPER supportive and loving during this crazy journey. My mother checks on me daily and she doesn’t know what it means to me. My boyfriend keeps me propped up and motivated which is almost witchcraft. Thank you, Hope, Ty, EJ, Shon, Lailah, AJ, Diana, Malik, April, Shari, and Naeema for your help. It takes a village and mine is solid. One day I will pay you back, but it ain’t today guys.
