We had the good fortune of connecting with Ella Seifert Faith Westmoreland and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Cupcakes4Change is run by Faith and me [Ella]. Every 2-3 months, we pick a cupcake flavor and a conservation organization to raise money for by selling cupcakes on a specific “baking day”. Neither of us has a lot of family locally, so it’s been so uplifting to see friends and members in our community come together to donate and support – and then to have our long-distance family give financial support when they don’t get to enjoy the cupcakes themselves means so much to us, too.

We’re so proud of the fact that our little nonprofit has raised over $10,000. Teenagers are creative and energetic and we have the power to make a substantial impact when we use our passions to drive positive change! We hope that by highlighting the work of different conservation organizations that we are raising awareness and inspiring action among our peers. Age should not be a barrier for making a meaningful difference in the world.

How does your business help the community or the world?
Cupcakes4Change has raised over $10,000 for various conservation organizations all over the world simply by baking and selling cupcakes. We also have been able to donate hundreds of cupcakes to the unhoused at SafeHouse Atlanta because of the donations of long-distance supporters. I [Ella] and my friend Sarah co-founded the 501(c)(3) Cupcakes4Change when we were in 7th grade. Even though Sarah no longer bakes with us anymore, Faithe has come on to help bake and raise money, allowing Cupcakes4Change to continue raising awareness and donations during our high school years. Because we are teenagers, we hope to show others around us that age doesn’t matter when it comes to making a difference in your community.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
We’re obviously animal-lovers, so we think that Zoo Atlanta is a must-see stop for anyone visiting the area. Ella is an avid birder and would want to take visitors on a birding field trip to Clayton County to see their flocks of blackbirds. Faith is a marine animal enthusiast and loves to show off the dolphin show at the Georgia Aquarium – though you must sit in the front and take in a few dolphin splashes! Both of us also love sweets and think that a decadent milkshake from The Yard is the perfect post-aquarium stop.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
As we decide which conservation organizations that we’re going to raise money for, it has been incredible to learn more about the nonprofit world. There are so many selfless individuals who are doing such brave and important things for our planet. Educating ourselves about these organizations and the unsung heroes who work and volunteer for them gives us such deep appreciation for those who are using their time and talents to make the world a better, safer place.
