We had the good fortune of connecting with Elizabeth Matadly and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Elizabeth, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
Entrepreneurship has always been a part of me since I was in high school. When I graduated with my Bachelors back in 2016; I recall applying to over 2000 jobs in my field and I was unsuccessful in gaining a position. I decided one day to take a leap of faith, follow my passion which led me opening my own business. That was the best decision I ever made.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
My fascination and passion with hair started at the age of eight in Monrovia, Liberia. I have always been interested in doing and learning more about hair. As a child, I practiced different hairstyles on the kids in the neighborhood by analyzing the pictures they showed me. This is when I realized I had a creative gift. My career began in 2007 at the age of ten when I relocated to the United States. After moving, I continued to perfect my skills by styling my family and friends hair. Hair have always been a dream of mine but I did not know how to effectively use my gift. My clients always encouraged me to open my own hair company, but I was reluctant to follow my dream. After graduating with my bachelor’s degree, I decided to become my own boss. I am a versatile stylist that is capable of doing braids, natural hairstyles, weave and more. After years of experience and research I can confidently offer my customers the best products. I have learned that nothing comes easy, coming from a low-come country, not having anyone to guide me through my journey has definitely been a challenge but I have always remembered why I started which is to take care of my family in Liberia. My goal is to make women feel beautiful in their own skin. Beauty starts within us but “enhancing our physical appearance gives us that extraordinary power to love and be ourselves”.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
The weekend itinerary for a friend visit down will definitely start with good food. I recently relocated so I am still learning the area. A place I have visited and loved so far for an amazing brunch will be Tupelo honey, for lunch we will head to mama gee’s, it is an authentic Ghanaian cuisine, for dinner I can cook a nice meal or we can always head to my favorite upscale restaurant capital grille. For a fun activities at night will be safari lux lounge, which is a mix of Afro beats, hip hop, r&b and etc.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My journey to Entrepreneurship have not been an easy one and I am still learning along the way. My family, fiancé and close friends have been my support system. They’ve showed me love and encouragements to keep pushing. They always find a way to show me why I started in the first place and I should never give up. My support system is definitely amazing, my clients and customers are amazing, they’re one of the many reasons entrepreneurship chose me.
