Meet Elizabeth Burton | Mother & Content Creator

We had the good fortune of connecting with Elizabeth Burton and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Elizabeth, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
When I started The Curated Kids, I was a newer mom with two small children. Having kids was honestly my dream come true; all I wanted to be when I grew up was a mother. So once I actually started having kids, there was suddenly room for all of these other interests and goals to come in. And being a stay at home mom was (and is) really hard! Rewarding but very hard and isolating sometimes. I had to make it more fun and sustainable for myself and I leaned into my creativity. DIYs, birthday parties, whimsical decor– these really became core parts of my mothering style. And then I was inspired by bloggers and women on social media sharing their creativity and style and despite my shyness, I really wanted to make a space for myself. I’ve always been a more creative person but didn’t know that I could harness that energy and develop any kind of career out of it. The best and most important part for me was that when doing a creative endeavor like this, I could still be the stay at home mom I always wanted to be. An amazing deal!
I really had this desire to share this part of myself and connect with other moms and maybe inspire them to put themselves out there too. So I started blogging and sharing my crafts and decor online. And building my own platform has allowed me to work with great brands and small shops and create this new dream come true.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I would say that childhood is my art. The birthday parties and crafts I make for my kids, the decor that I collect and curate for their rooms–that is a big part of my life and content creating makes it my work. I’m on a mission to make motherhood as enjoyable for women as childhood is for our kids. I believe in combining intention and magic to raise happy kids. This is my brand of motherhood that I’ve been building into an actual brand to share with the moms in my community.
Building The Curated Kids has been such a surprise. I’m most proud of the companies I’ve been able to work with that have recognized my vision and have allowed me to do so many fun things with and for my family. It can be challenging; content creating is nowhere as easy or simple as it looks. You’re putting yourself out there all the time and it can be hard to put up your creativity for discussion. Not to mention approaching brands, submitting your work for approval, and spell checking your captions before hitting post. But I’ve grown a lot, learning to believe in myself and what I create.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I love hosting! Honestly, it’s my solution for being an introvert who wants connection. My favorite places to take visiting family and friends are The Battery, Chattahoochee Food Works, and Ponce City Market. They all have fun atmospheres, outdoor space for kids to play, and amazing food. The Georgia Aquarium and Zoo Atlanta are more of our favorite excursions for our kids. And some of my favorite memories are the shows I’ve seen at The Fox Theatre.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Building something out of nothing requires so much support. My kids deserve the most credit, absolutely. They are my main inspiration for anything and everything I create, the source of any confidence I’ve been able to build, and the motivation that helps me to keep pushing myself. They’re also precious and patient and love everything I make for them.
My husband Matthew just always encourages me and loves me unconditionally, even though I make so many messes (in the pursuit of creativity) and he’s very organized.
And then there’s my family. My parents are excellent examples to me and are always excited to hear when a new opportunity has come my way. My siblings who are all loyal and smart and successful; I have learned so much from them. And my best friend Caroline who believes in everything I do.
