Meet Elijah Lamar

We had the good fortune of connecting with BMF TV Series Actor Elijah Lamar and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Elijah, what role has risk played in your life or career?
“To be successful, jump as quickly at opportunities as you do conclusions”
The moment I told myself to choose me over everything else is when I started to live my life, that’s when I found peace. I’ve always had a 9 to 5 because I was taught to believe that you have to work to live or you have to live the work and overtime i found myself watching everybody else do what I dreamed to do and I’m over here punching a clock for a 9 to 5 helping to make another person dreams successful instead of mine. One day I really just woke up and told myself that I have a great resume and I can always go back to the corporate world but I can’t always be successful In the career that makes me happy so from here on out I’m going to give 100% of my energy, time and attention into my dreams. Eversince I made that decision I been 100% happy and comfortable in my life and my career.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
What’s sets me apart from a lot of entertainers is the fact that I have a speech impediment and I took my weakness and turned it into a strength. I am a Actor/Artist/Activist.
Everything that I am successful at has to do with speaking or even public speaking, growing up I had a low self-esteem when it came to my speech impediment because I couldn’t hold a conversation, as I got older and started doing music it played as speech therapy for me and over time it naturally improved my speech. I can honestly say music saved my life, without music it’s no telling how I would end it up or if I would even be here still.
My journey definitely wasn’t the easiest one, growing up in poverty, growing up with drugs around me, growing up losing people, growing up trying to not be easily influenced from the streets, but I am happy and proud to say that I am a product of my environment in a positive way and I am a great representation of my Hometown Canton Ohio.
The lessons I’ve learnt through my journey is to never give up Never let anybody tell you what you can’t do, never let anybody discourage you because the same boy that couldn’t complete a sentence or hold a conversation is the same man sitting here doing this interview about the successes that I’m having in my life like being on the number 1 TV series BMF on Starz Directed by 50 Cent and also on Step Up Season 3. I have movies I’m featured in with Jamie Fox and Tyler Perry coming out next year, I never thought that I would ever be here but I am, so if I can tell anybody anything or drop any words of encouragement to anybody. It would be to never give up on your dreams, do what makes you happy and be happy at what you’re doing, Don’t be afraid to jump because until you jump off that porch you will never know how you’re going to land.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Well luckily my best friend lives in the same city as me so when me and her linked up it’s always a great time but if it was another friend coming here to visit i will probably take them to see downtown during the day and let them ride some of the bird scooters threw the city, after that I would take them to the trap museum because that’s a very popular Landmark that people like to see when they come in town but most of my friends are entertainers as well so I will show them the night life, probably take them to a showcase or two like Takeoff ATL & Bonfire ATL, One thing I love about Atlanta is how much love and support that they show to outta towners

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My brother J-Mac who passed away is probably the biggest motivation to the fire that I have when it comes to making it at all cost and my little brother Keemo looks up to me so I try hard to not let him down either. When I first moved to Atlanta it was so many supportive people I met who helped me out, like Marlon Seymour (Mentor), Jasmine Glenn (My best friend), Raphael Gunn (Actor/Model), Yah (Muziq Headz Radio), David Nixon Jr (Director), Sebastian Francis (Director), King K (Owner of KrownMe LLC, TakeoffATL), Clive Bailey (Owner of CAB Castings) he helped me get recognized quickly as a Actor. I’m probably missing some people but most importantly i have to give credit to Alektra Dedmond (Casting Director). She seen something in me that I didn’t see in myself and she helped me believe that I can go far as a Actor. She used her resources to help me in more ways then one and I really appreciate her for that.
