We had the good fortune of connecting with Eli Williams and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Eli, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
When starting my own business in Music Production was working on music for myself and my friends. My friends told other people through word to mouth that I can engineer and produce their songs in great industry like quality. From working with a huge amount of people, I then wanted to charge for my services in which people were okay to pay. After years of grinding and perfecting my business, it led me to work with artist that are in the industry and getting more clients of my skills and services.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am an audio engineer/music producer. I would like to say my work ethic plays a huge role on where my career journey is going. From countless hours of being in the studio, to numerous of songs being placed on streaming platforms that I recorded, mixed, mastered or produced, I feel like that brought me to the right direction that I would like to be in my business. It definitely wasn’t easy. Sometimes, you will have clients trying to get services for free or just didn’t like the final product because it doesn’t sound like what the rough draft sounded like. I really just overcome these challenges by not giving up and listening to the artist, producer or manager’s goals and directions. It’s not really my song but they do trust me to help bring them to a certain direction of their careers as well. Lessons I did learn is that less is more and to always listen to the client and your gut. I say this by understanding what the artist want and need and to make direct decisions on what to use thats going to make the song great. I want the world to know my brand is to get great quality in anything I do. The name “Elididthatshit” is a great term because people like that quality in the production and ask “Who Did that song” and the answer is “Elididthatshit”.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If my friends were in Atlanta for a week, I’ll definitely bring them to a Hawks or Falcons game just because we love sports. I’m definitely bringing them to American Deli getting a 10 piece honey hot with lemon pepper sprinkle lol. We might hit the club just for some entertainment a couple of drinks. Finally, we hitting the studio probably Tree Sound Studios or Deaf Star Studios.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would definitely like to shout out an organization called Our Piece of the Pie and my mentor name Kenneth Brown. The organization showed me a lot about audio engineering and music production at the age of 14. Kenneth also inspired me on taking my education to the next level by showing me different audio engineering schools and having me learn recording and mixing techniques that I still used. I also would like to shout out to Chill Shump and DJ Kenedi. Those guys heard my skills and saw my work ethic and had me working in different studios and having me work with artist such as Anoyd, Showly and Tye Henney.
